Book Trailer I Hunt Killers

About Barry Lyga
Barry Lyga publicity picCalled a “YA rebel-author” by Kirkus Reviews, Barry Lyga has published eleven novels in various genres in his seven-year career, including the New York Times bestselling I Hunt Killers. His books have been or are slated to be published in ten different languages in North America, Australia, Europe, and Asia.
After graduating from Yale with a degree in English, Lyga worked in the comic book industry before quitting to pursue his lifelong love of writing. In 2006, his first young adult novel, The Astonishing Adventures of Fanboy and Goth Girl, was published to rave reviews, including starred reviews from Booklist and School Library Journal. Publisher’s Weekly named Lyga a “Flying Start” in December 2006 on the strength of the debut.
His second young adult novel, Boy Toy, received starred reviews in SLJ, Publishers Weekly, and Kirkus. VOYA gave it its highest critical rating, and the Chicago Tribune called it “…an astounding portrayal of what it is like to be the young male victim.” His third novel, Hero-Type, according to VOYA ”proves that there are still fresh ideas and new, interesting story lines to be explored in young adult literature.”
Since then, he has also written Goth Girl Rising (the sequel to his first novel), as well as the Archvillain series for middle-grade readers and the graphic novel Mangaman (with art by Colleen Doran).
His latest series is I Hunt Killers, called by the LA Times “one of the more daring concepts in recent years by a young-adult author” and an “extreme and utterly alluring narrative about nature versus nurture.” The first book landed on both the New York Times and USAToday bestsellers lists, and the series has been optioned for television by Warner Bros./Silver Pictures.
Lyga lives and writes in New York City. His comic book collection is a lot smaller than it used to be, but is still way too big.

Teaser!

I’ve found you, fur ball.

Nexi peered from behind the large oak tree and spotted the small log cabin nestled in the thick forest. The porch light cast a warm glow into the night. Fog settled over the lush grass, and the night was dark, eerie.

Stepping away from her hiding place behind the tree, she strode forward and gripped the dagger tightly in her hand. Keeping the silver blade pointed outward, she climbed the cabin’s porch steps, taking each one slowly to avoid detection.

Once she arrived at the front door, she wrapped her hand around the door handle. Rich hunger for revenge burned in her veins and made her intent on one thing: to slaughter the werewolf who escaped the night of her parents’ murder. Not caring what awaited her, she stormed inside, dagger pointed, ready to kill.

The simple cabin had two large brown couches near a wood-burning stove, a kitchenette behind the living room, and a quilt-covered bed resting in the back. And that was it; there were no other rooms to investigate. No secret hiding places she could see.

No damned werewolf.

She cursed, shut the front door behind her, then trotted down the steps to return to her hiding spot. On her way across the yard, she glanced at the space to the right of the tree, which looked much like a heat wave, indicating that the portal to the Otherworld remained.

In some places around the world—or the Earthworld, as supernaturals had called it—there were permanent portals to the supernatural realm. This portal had only appeared because Nexi had travelled to this cabin from the Otherworld. Once she passed through the portal again, the gateway would vanish.

Magic had its perks. Quick travel was one of them.

Nexi shook her head at how normal all this magical stuff seemed now. Just over a month ago she’d never believed in anything that went bump in the night. Now she knew all those things existed, and in fact, she was one of them.

To her horror, she had learned that her birth mother, Tillie, had been murdered by a power-hungry vampire, Lazarus.  All those years ago, her birth father, Drake, had protectively decided to block Nexi’s supernatural abilities. He had planned for her to live and die as a mortal. Now with her return to the Otherworld and the removal of the block on her true identity, there was no going back.

She was no longer plain, human, Nexi Jones.

She was Nexi Jones, part guardian, part witch.

Looking away from the portal and to her hiding spot until the werewolf returned, she hurried her steps. She wasn’t ready to return to the Otherworld yet. Not until she had the werewolf’s head as her wall ornament would she dare go home.

Just as she neared the tree, a woodsy scent that had nothing to do with the forest mixed with the citrusy aroma of aftershave. A blink of an eye later, the dagger she held was now at her throat, a hard body closed in on her back.
“You smelled lovely when you arrived.” The low voice by her ear held a faint English accent. “But I never imagined you’d be so pretty.”

The blade pressed into her skin, not drawing blood, but implying that if the werewolf chose, she’d be destined for the grave. “I’m…”

“Going to explain yourself.” He lowered the dagger, took hold of her arm, and jerked her forward.

In a few short strides, the werewolf tossed her through the threshold of the cabin, and slammed the door behind them. He sauntered to the couch, sat down, and regarded her. “Now then, darlin’.” His olive skin was stunningly flawless, and his chocolate-colored hair was spiked tall. “Why would a pretty lass like yourself plan to attack me?”

“Don’t move.” That charm wouldn’t fool her. “Stay right where you are.”

“My mouth is the only thing moving.” His slanted amber eyes raked over her. “Would you like me to stop talking?”

“No.” She hesitated then added, “Only your mouth can move. Nothing else. Tell me what you know.”

He gave her a long look. “I’d be glad to tell you anything you’d like, love.”

His kind face and soft voice wouldn’t trick her. He was a werewolf. She was certain, which was another oddity.

After the block on her supernatural abilities had been lifted, she could identify a supernatural creature as if knowing the difference between a brunette and a redhead. “Tell me why you killed my family.”

“That’s an interesting accusation.” He cocked his head, studying her with a frown. “But I think the more important question is who are you?”

Kitty and The Dead Man's Hand Review

Kitty and the Dead Man;s Hand (Kitty Norville #5) By Carrie Vaughn

Kitty and the Dead Man's Hand (Kitty Norville, #5)HONEYMOON IN VEGAS?

Already the alpha pair of Denver's werewolf pack, Kitty and Ben now plan to tie the knot human-style by eloping to Vegas. Kitty is looking forward to sipping fru-fru drinks by the pool and doing her popular radio show on live TV, but her hotel is stocked with werewolf-hating bounty hunters. Elsewhere on the Strip an old-school magician might be wielding the real thing; the vampire community is harboring a dark secret; and the irresistible star of a suspicious animal act is determined to seduce Kitty. Sin City has never been so wild, and this werewolf has never had to fight harder to save not only her wedding, but her very life.

Review
WOW talk about Kitty getting hitched! But getting hitched was the least of her problem, after arriving at the Olympus and Casino. Kitty knew that part of her trip involves a live televise of her radio show "The Midnight Hour" but what she did not expect was there to be a gun show on the very same weekend. After everything that happen in Washington, Kitty been more on edge. So what does Las Vegas has to present her? Her intital plan was to sit by the pool and drink frilly drinks but that doesn't happen when she discover a stage show of shifters, an magic show and Ben getting into a poker tourament? She meet the vampire leader of Las Vegas DOM she also meet Balthasar the owner/leader of "King of Beasts" even a magician named Odysseus Grant who believes every secrets of magic should be kept secret.
Something will always cause mayhem for Kitty

I give this Five Cat's Tails Ups

Ramble
This book was freaking Cat's Tails Ups Amazing! I love the pace of this read compare to last one and having to only focus on a few characters rather than tons by name. You read the interaction with the characters better and Does Kitty make enemies in this book? That I was unsure of except knowing that Balthasar was label as the "bad guy" character along with his pack and a female vampire. Carrie's visual aspect of Las Vegas was probably what Las Vegas is if I were to ever go there.
Now there was suppose to be a wedding right? Well that did eventually happen even though there were a few roadblocks getting to the alter. In the end it turns out that your standard magican was the one to help out and making a few hunters friends might also not be so bad.
But does everything stay in Vegas?

Until Next Time Kitty Norville . . . Where will Trouble come from next?

Fragments (Partials #2) By Dan Well

Fragments (Partials, #2)Kira Walker has found the cure for RM, but the battle for the survival of humans and Partials is just beginning. Kira has left East Meadow in a desperate search for clues to who she is. That the Partials themselves hold the cure for RM in their blood cannot be a coincidence--it must be part of a larger plan, a plan that involves Kira, a plan that could save both races. Her companions are Afa Demoux, an unhinged drifter and former employee of ParaGen, and Samm and Heron, the Partials who betrayed her and saved her life, the only ones who know her secret. But can she trust them?

Meanwhile, back on Long Island, what's left of humanity is gearing up for war with the Partials, and Marcus knows his only hope is to delay them until Kira returns. But Kira's journey will take her deep into the overgrown wasteland of postapocalyptic America, and Kira and Marcus both will discover that their greatest enemy may be one they didn't even know existed.

The second installment in the pulse-pounding Partials saga is the story of the eleventh hour of humanity's time on Earth, a journey deep into places unknown to discover the means--and even more important, a reason--for our survival.

Book Trailers for Fragments (Book Two) Sorry that it's a link to the video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XvuIHzyvfA

Because I am behind on reviewing three books I am holding off on Fragments until the reviews are completed and scheduled. I can't say much about what I think of Fragments so far because of my little lateness.

But here some info on Book One: PARTIALS

Partials (Partials, #1)Book Description
The human race is all but extinct after a war with Partials--engineered organic beings identical to humans--has decimated the population. Reduced to only tens of thousands by RM, a weaponized virus to which only a fraction of humanity is immune, the survivors in North America have huddled together on Long Island while the Partials have mysteriously retreated. The threat of the Partials is still imminent, but, worse, no baby has been born immune to RM in more than a decade. Our time is running out.

Kira, a sixteen-year-old medic-in-training, is on the front lines of this battle, seeing RM ravage the community while mandatory pregnancy laws have pushed what's left of humanity to the brink of civil war, and she's not content to stand by and watch. But as she makes a desperate decision to save the last of her race, she will find that the survival of humans and Partials alike rests in her attempts to uncover the connections between them--connections that humanity has forgotten, or perhaps never even knew were there.

Dan Wells, acclaimed author of I Am Not a Serial Killer, takes readers on a pulsepounding journey into a world where the very concept of what it means to be human is in question--one where our humanity is both our greatest liability and our only hope for survival.

With All My Soul (Soul Screamers, #7)

Published by Harlequin Teen, print edition is 384 pages . . .
With All My Soul is the seventh and final full-lenght book of Rachel Vincent's series "Soul Screamers"

Goodreads Description
What does it mean when your school is voted the most dangerous in America? It's time to kick some hellion butt...
After not really surviving her junior year (does "undead" count as survival?), Kaylee Cavanaugh has vowed to take back her school from the hellions causing all the trouble. She's going to find a way to turn the incarnations of Avarice, Envy and Vanity against one another in order to protect her friends and finish this war, once and forever.
But then she meets Wrath and understands that she's closer to the edge than she's ever been. And when one more person close to her is taken, Kaylee realizes she can't save everyone she loves without risking everything she has....

So you heard me be giddy about this book on my Don't Let It End!Currently Reading Post . . . Now I will give you my review.

REVIEW

With All My Soul is stunning conclusion of Rachel Vincent’s Soul Screamers series, duly noted that this is her longest series consisting of three novellas “My Soul to Lose”, “Reaper” and “Never To Sleep” along with two anthologies, “Fearless” and “Niederwald” Plus a short story found in Before I Wake “A Day With Tod In the Afterlife”.

I believe that I’ve been with this series since my late teens and during my early adult years. I’ve watch Kaylee Cavanaugh go through so many ups and downs as a teen but also as a bean sidhe “Banshee”. When its time for someone to die, Kaylee will be the one screaming for their souls but now? What’s next for Kaylee and the gang?

After suffering a terrible loss of a friend and a freaky body neck snap, someone coming back from the dead but not in their own body. But now it’s WAR and PERSONAL, Kaylee will do anything to make sure her family and friends are safe . . . AT ANY COST.

Now you remember Avari, the Hellion of Greed . . . he is out for Kaylee’s soul no matter what, so what does he do? Steal the one person that most important to her. But what can she do? What will she do? Trying to figure out a solution wasn’t coming as quick as she hoped until the Hellion of Wrath comes along.

This Hellion of Wrath, IRA just might be the key to taking down Avari but not without a price . . . a hefty price. The gang gets together to figure out how to rescue one of their own but the risks have become greater and higher when your enemy is one step ahead of you.

Kaylee makes some huge sacrifice in this final book, and sometimes it just might have to end up making a deal with a Hellion. Yes a deal with a Hellion, will it be worth the deal and sacrifice for Kaylee or will it end in turmoil?

I give this an out of this Cat's Tails World! More than Five Tails Up!

Ramble
I love everything about this book! from the first page to the last . . . I mean how could I not? After being a huge reader of this series, I spent my late teens to early adult years with this series and its characters.

Rachel truly went above and beyond with ending WAMS, it was action-packed, love-worthy, and truly some heartbreaking moments. If being a writer means putting your character through HELL then so be it! As long good overcomes evil.

Now it's time to say goodbye, but hey I can still go back and re-read this series all over again :)

A LOT HAPPENS in the book, more than I think readers could handle! Think about it with Emma's dramatic body change, Nash and Sabine officially a couple, Brendon and Harmony (Say what?), Tod and Kaylee's Afterlife, and of course you can't just have those without a little bit . . . no a lot of Hellions around.

So what's really happens? Read Before I Wake to find out or if you haven't read the series GO START! In short summary, WAMS deals with Kaylee making the ultimate sacrifice for the one she loves, for everybody she loves. But not with out making some deals with a few people and making BIG promises.

Favorite Moments

Kaylee and Harmony shared a moment when Harmony explains just how truly Kaylee's parents were meant for each other. Kaylee never truly understood about her parents love but now she did and it pains Kaylee to realizes that her dad will always forever suffer the loss of her mom because they each shared part of their soul. Until somehow Kaylee's mom soul would ever be found, that emptiness and pain will always linger.

"Kaylee, your parents were soul mates." ~ Harmony pg 179

Nash and Sabine certainly finally coupled up, even though Nash still struggle with the betrayal and heartache when his brother Tod and ex-girlfriend Kaylee coupled up. But now when Sabine get injured during a shift run looking for one of their own people, he now feels guilty that he never said the things he wanted to say to Sabine.
"I've wasted so much time. And so many words. What if I don't get the chance to make it right?" ~ Nash pg 230

Here's one of my favorite moments, the part where Nash is told the real TRUTH . . . Of course this was suppose to be between Kaylee, Tod and Harmony but the spur of the moment arise. Kaylee tells Nash that he's the one that died, not Tod (Read Reaper to get the back story) but of course Nash denies it but when Kaylee starts explaining. Now Nash begins to feel guilty for his actions. . . All of it.
"I'm saying that when you died, your brother started shouting for the reaper to show himself. He demanded to be take in your place. He died way before his time so you could live. So you could go on and make something of your life." ~ Kaylee pg 217

Meeting the Hellion of Wrath IRA, I was expected to meet another hellion but to meet one that was willing to help out? No in order for a hellion to help out, there is always a price to pay. When Ira first meet Kaylee for the first time, he is quite fond of her . . . by fond I mean his fond of Kaylee’s growing anger. Ira gave Kaylee his calling card if and when Kaylee want to speak to him. Ira has  a few nickname for Kaylee like “little flame” or “little fury” this pleased him knowing that he feeds off of anger and he would do just about anything to get a taste of her anger.
"Oh, no, my little fury, don't be scared. I enjoy your fear, true, but I'd much rather have your anger." ~ Ira pg 153

Tod and Kaylee "Minor Fight" I always find little fights or arguments a little amusing among couples that don't normally fight. So after everything Kaylee tries to do to reach out to the person she relies on the most, she doesn't get much luck. So when she fought back and forth about summoning Ira, Hellion of Wrath . . . was it really worth it? Tod knows that once Kaylee has something set in her mind, there no chance of changing it but Tod wasn't too pleased with what was the price for a little information.
“Just. . .in the future, save all the good stuff for me okay?” ~ Tod pg 163

The ending! oh how about that ending!!!! I had to admit I was worry about just how this was going to end but thankfully Kaylee thought ahead of time and gave very specific instructions even though time was lost as the result of her huge sacrifice. The reunion was bittersweet, I don't think we could have imagined it in any other way. Every character has a happy ending, and Kaylee is happy that everyone got a life free of hellions, and the Netherworld.
"The universe owes us forever. And our eternity starts now." ~ Tod pg 377

Favorite Passages
"Someday soon, reaper, your mouth will be the source o your own destruction." ~ Avari Pg 188

Divergent (Divergent #1) By Veronica Roth

Divergent (Divergent, #1)Goodreads Description

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue--Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is--she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles alongside her fellow initiates to live out the choice they have made. Together they must undergo extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. As initiation transforms them all, Tris must determine who her friends really are--and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes exasperating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers unrest and growing conflict that threaten to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.

This Book was voted on Goodread Choice Award for "Favorite Book" . . . and soon a movie

So I'd finally picked up this book after having purchase it last summer, and said "Let's read this book NOW!" Now I've heard this book is the next best thing to read after the Hunger Games, however I did not show interest in reading it.

Yes I went to the movie, sure it was okay but I just can't fathom how that is okay for young teen to read? Movies also applies. ANYWAYS I'm not going to rant on my POV on the Hunger Games.

Divergent . . . What do I think so far?
Well I like the Chicago area idea, considering I've been to Chicago once and love what I saw of it. But also Veronica Roth lives in Chicago so she got some of her ideas from home-based.

Factions? Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Dauntless, Erudite . . . How do you choose?
From my understanding of it is that you are put through a aptitude test that matches you up with the best consideration of Factions that you could choose to join.

Now the main character Beatrice or "Tris" she neither pass/fail the test . . . her result was inconclusive which is what they refers to her as DIVERGENT. But Beatrice was told to not say anything to anyone about her results.

Abnegation (the selfless)
Amity (the peaceful)
Candor (the honest)
Dauntless (the brave)
Erudite (the intelligent)

So now the choosing factions ceremony, Tris decided to go to the Dauntless Faction, however she question herself did she make the right choice? As every transfers and Dauntless-born are put through series of tests. Tris meets a few people along the way.

The Dauntless Initiates
Christina (Candor)
Will (Erudite)
Al (Dauntless)
Peter (Candor)
Molly (Condor)
Drew (Candor)
Uriah (Dauntless)

Tris begins to get along with Christina, Will and Al but the rest all see her as weak and "Stiff" because of where she's from. Tris doesn't do much to try and prove herself or draw attention but no matter what she does, she is somehow always noticed.  The instructors Eric and Four are overseeing who has what it take to be a Dauntless but there is tension between the two from their own initiate where Four was rank #1 and Eric was #2.

Characters Thoughts?
Aside from the weird names, they each are different and you can tell what their personality is but also how each have their own strength and weaknesses.
Beatrice "Tris" started off venerable but now after she been through a lot of downs rather than ups, she finds an inner strength within her.

But what she also does is find out that she is not the only "DIVERGENT" around. She also finds friendship among Will and Christina but also her instructor Four who seem to taken in interest in her because I'm sure he suspects something unusual about Tris.

There weren't many characters that you needed to keep an eye on because they didn't make the cut of being a Dauntless, but Al who had confined with Tris during multiple training sessions all the sudden turns against her.

I'm about 80% done with Divergent although I swear I just started this book Monday or Tuesday. But I guess that what happen when you read TOO MANY chapters at night. My review of the book won't be posted until sometime late next week as I take about a week to write an review.
