Not a Drop to Drink by Mindy McGinnis

Not a Drop to Drink Regret was for people with nothing to defend, people who had no water.Lynn knows every threat to her pond: drought, a snowless winter, coyotes, and, most importantly, people looking for a drink. She makes sure anyone who comes near the pond leaves thirsty, or doesn't leave at all.

Confident in her own abilities, Lynn has no use for the world beyond the nearby fields and forest. Having a life means dedicating it to survival, and the constant work of gathering wood and water. Having a pond requires the fortitude to protect it, something Mother taught her well during their quiet hours on the rooftop, rifles in hand.

But wisps of smoke on the horizon mean one thing: strangers. The mysterious footprints by the pond, nighttime threats, and gunshots make it all too clear Lynn has exactly what they want, and they won’t stop until they get it….

With evocative, spare language and incredible drama, danger, and romance, debut author Mindy McGinnis depicts one girl’s journey in a barren world not so different than our own.

Book Review: Opal (Lux #3)

Opal (Lux #3) By Jennifer L Armentrout

Opal (Lux, #3)No one is like Daemon Black.

When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well... There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.

But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.

After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different... And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we’re stronger... and they know it.

Opal Book Trailer

Opal is the best out of the Lux series, but duly noted I have not read Origin yet

Review

After Daemon saved Katy from her mother's physco boyfriend Will, and the return of Dawson, they think everything will be back to normal . . . Yeah not even close. Blake was still roaming alive and Dee has been set out on a vendetta. So what happens next?

The last thing Katy ever expected was to have Blake returning to school much less saying that he has a way to save Beth, Dawson's human girlfriend. But what's in it for him?

After an attempt to break into the building that is holding Beth, the first thing they didn't expect was Onyx, a deadly weapon that can be used against hybrid luxens.

Still determined to save Beth, the gang starts adapting to onyx in order to get pass the main part of security.

In the end someone is not making it out of the secure building . . .

MEEEOOOOWW! Such an amazing series and Opal delivers more thrills, more romance and more fear. The bundle of kittens are happily attracting your attention, their tails overlaps one another, you don't know whose belongs to whom.

Meow . . . Meow . . . Meow

Boy! Katy and Daemon are really are hitting off in Opal, with a few interuptions and distractions. I'd hoped that they would have a chance to finally not worry about the Arum, DOD and BLAKE. But the restart of school brings Blake back and everyone is on edge about it. What's worst? Dee is determine to kill Blake after the loss of Adam, but Daemon is very concern if she would to kill Blake what would be the emotional consquences?

Also I love Dee, I really do but in this book she was a different person and she blamed Daemon and Katy for letting Blake go in the first place. But I think the Dee and Katy relationship has really changed after Onyx . . . Will they ever be friends again?

Oh come on, you know you were hoping for a little romance actions and eventually Daemon and Katy did. You know they got the chemistry but what's more important is that they are connected, hearts beating as one. That was even more bittersweet.

So Blake has a way to save Beth? Yeah I would never trust him with his words but he did eventually lead them there only to get what he wanted and it every person for themselves. Also the nighttime stalking of Katy? CREEPY

But then that not all! Remember back in Onyx where Blake talked about if the hybrid or the luxen that mutated the human were to be badly injured to point of death . . . they both die? Yeah had a little scare moment but whew for relief.

In the end you'll have to see if the gang made it out alive or who was left behind,
Is it Daemon . . .Beth . . .Blake . . .Katy . . . or Dawson?

I'm so curious how Origin will go but I'm still waiting to get my paws on the book, the lack of book orders from my store is disappointing. Origin should have been the first thing under their Teen/YA section of Top Books to Read and no we aren't Barnes and Noble. So that is not deem as important.

Well wish me luck on that MOUSE HUNTING of Origin.

Cover Reveal: A Risk Worth Taking

A Risk Worth Taking by Heather Hildenbrand

Accendo Press - October 2013

Goodreads link: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18370731-a-risk-worth-taking

BOOK SUMMARY:

When 22-year-old Summer Stafford’s parents split halfway through her senior year at college, Summer’s world is rocked. Everything she thought she knew—heck, everything she thought she wanted for her own life—feels like a lie. The truth is love is a risk. And the true kind, the kind that lasts, might even be a fairy tale.

Reeling from the divorce, Summer derails her own future by breaking up with her parent-approved boyfriend and giving up her lifelong plans for a big-city career. She moves back home, business degree in hand. Dad needs her to fill the gaps her mother left behind; Summer needs to find who she is outside of the cookie-cutter life that failed so miserably for her parents.

Ford O’Neal’s future involves one person: himself. He doesn’t have a permanent address and he definitely doesn’t commit. To a place or a person. Raised by hippies, he plans just far enough ahead to secure his next stop, this one landing him at a work-study program at Heritage Plantation where he can grow his own herbal and medicinal creations.

Summer is gorgeous and smart and fun to be with, the perfect way to pass five months. It won’t be love—Ford’s got too many things to accomplish, too many places to go, before he settles down. Yet Summer pulls him in, challenging him to rethink his own philosophy.

When Ford’s five months are up, each of them must decide if love is really worth the risk.

Blogger Times: Stacking My Shelves

I know today has been a good day to me . . . I added more books to my shelves and it was a large pile.

While I'm still waiting on a few books that I've won/or ordered, I can't show pictures yet but I'm happy to share my new shiny cat toys.

After reading a post by Danny of Bewitched Bookworms where she talks about the Morganville Vampires series by Rachel Caine.
http://bewitchedbookworms.com/2013/06/series-feature-the-morganville-vampires-by-rachel-caine-fall-of-night-14.html

Danny gave some very high points on why we should read the Morganville Vampire series, as for me I was staying away from it because I wanted to read more about other supernatural creatures like Werewolves or people with supernatural abilities. So for the longest time I've choose to not buy any vampire books . . . the only book that counts is The Mortal Instrument: City of Lost Souls, and a few others that had tie-in with vampires.

Embedded image permalinkMy bookstore actually carries the volumes of the Morganville Vampires and two were in the clearance (overstock/publishers lower price) But then my amazing mom found Ghost Town in Pp and HC in clearance as well. But here's the rub . . . the HC was cheaper than the PP, Say What?

I took it as the publishing company had sold HC first then within 3 month period went straight to Pp.

Now you see two are not Rachel Caine's books but in fact Kelley Armstrong's Otherworld series, her first works of books. I had doubts that my store would actually carry her first book "Bitten" but I was in awed to find out that Plume had it reformatted with new covers and I was just dosed with catnip that I could find it. So I will be keeping my eyes out for the next couple books of the Otherworld series by Kelley.

Now the question remains, WHEN WILL I EVER HAVE THE TIME TO READ THEM?
good question . . . christmas break? school break? Summer break? Night read? Gym read? I have no clue, I really should really create a post of my goal for 2014 reads because I sort of have one just not written down on paper (its all in my head)

So I'm off to finish another book and reviews (which I've fallen greatly behind)

Book Review: Steel Lily

You know reviewing would be a lot easier if my mind was set to it plus having the time, I can spent almost an hour at the most writing a post making sure it's what I want, other times I stop in mid post and return to it the next day.

Megan Curd the author of Forbidden, The Bridger Series and now The Peridoic Series . . . I've been a lover of her writing and now she has done it again . . . making me fall in love with her even more. The Periodic Series an Dystopia/Steampunk/Young Adult, brings

Steel Lily (Periodic Series) By Megan Curd

AVERY PIKE is a commodity. No, more than a commodity. Her existence is guarded at all costs.

She’s a water Elementalist, the strongest of her dwindling kind. She creates steam to provide energy to fuel Dome Three: the only thing standing between humanity and an earth ravaged by World War III. No steam, no Dome. No Dome, no life.

Or so she thinks.

That is, until a mysterious man offers her a way out of having to donate steam. A way to escape the corrupt government of Dome Three. While the offer seems too good to be true, Avery is intrigued.

But when she arrives to her new home, she realizes the grass isn’t any less dead on this side of the fence. Instead, the lies are just hidden better.

…Which means digging deeper.

When Avery enlists the help of her friends to uncover the truth, it may make her wonder if she was better off being a government tool than searching for freedom.

Some secrets are better left concealed, but humankind was never meant to live in a cage. And when you can control the most sought after resource, you can learn to control anything…including the fate of your world.

Review

Avery Pike, a young teen with no future  until a random visitor said that there is more out there and the potential she has being an Elite. She can turn water into steam but the dome she lives in thrives on Steam to do the everyday basis except for whenever Avery uses her ability things goes awry

Avery's world are filled with domes due to the increase of radiations and carbon dioxide levels that occurs when World War III happen. Should Avery stay in her own dome or go to where her visitor had said there is much more beyond the dome she lives in.

Will Avery's choice be more than she bargain for?

I give this book five cat's Tails Up, Megan delivers a new dystopia taken place in the midwest that is close to home. Our world changed when World War III started.

Meow, Meow, Meow

I must say I haven't read much dystopia and I'm trying to due to the increase popularity so when I heard about Megan's Steel Lily I needed to read it. Avery is an elite elementist who can control the element of water but can turn it Into steam but whenever she uses her ability it goes out of control.

So at times Avery feels like she an uncontrollable freak but when a this particular stranger makes a visit to see HER she wonders why? But this stranger has information about something close to heartland home with Avery.

We meet Alice, Averys BFF and they practically treat each other like sisters, but when the Polatzi are breaking in to their old hideout place. Avery and Alice had no choice but to run outside with one mask but soon the BFFs finds themselves meeting Jaxon Pierce  a truly handsome guy with a cocky attitude to save them.

Soon Alice and Avery arrive to the new dome known as dome four and there is a world of possibility, or at least that what Avery was led to believe. Jaxon and Avery butts head either because Avery hates assumption or Jaxon just likes pushing her buttons.

We meet the smart and sassy Sari, she and Jaxon been friends for ages and only Sari understands part of Jaxon's past and why he hates his own father. Soon things starts becoming unexplainable at dome 4 and soon Avery as well her friends begin to wonder if it is all as it seems?

So have I give you a reason to go pick this book out? YES! Megan's idea for the Periodic series brings a new taste of dystopia and where survival is the key to success and the most elite can save the future.

~ I can't wait for Iron Pendulum to come out, to see what happen after Avery figures out what her greatest mistakes was and who she's meant to be.

So first off Cake is a really interesting title, I thought as it being a very sweet and tasty read and it was! Cake also had artistic aspects into the story where the characters both are very passionate about their art.  I request Cake from Netgallery, I do not own it/paid for it.
My review of Cake . . .

Review
Wren has always been Gregori's messenger but Wren also has love Gregori's art work that he put hours into but soon Gregori and Wren will finally get that long last taste they both desires.

Gregori had dealt with ups and downs during his life and he rather be hard at work than anything else.  But can he deny the sweetness of Wren?

A kiss sweet as cake drives both Wren and Gregori to want more . . .

But can both Wren and Gregori have cake and eat it too?

I give this a four and a half Cat Tails Up, Lauren Dane really created a sweet and passionate novella of two that just need to have their cake and eat it too.

Meow, Meow, Meow
I'm all for cake but I'd prefer cupcakes, that isn't the case for Wren and Gregori they both have an instant chemistry although it wasn't always there. But soon Wren and Gregori both enjoy their time together, their common passion for art and their tasty treats.

Now not every couples have a positive side, they also can have a negative side to the relationship. Gregori couldn't admit to how he felt about Wren but he didn't want a committed relationship either. So eventually he want to cut all contact with her, hoping that it will suggest Wren that he only wants a friendship out of it.

Wren little taste of cake made her realizes that Gregori is very good with his tasty treats and his hands, the burning sweet sensation that kept her wanting more..

In the end Wren isn't going to let Gregori push her away, so she surprises him where he was going to be presenting an art piece only to led Gregori into the biggest ultimatum he has ever gotten.

Gregori can no longer denies the sweetness of Wren.

Author Photo WebThe story goes like this — Seven years ago, Lauren Dane decided to quit her job and stay home with her brand new second child. As a result, she had lots of conversations in a sing-song voice but no real outlet for adult thoughts and words. While on bed-rest with her pregnancy with the tiny monster, Lauren had plenty of down time so her husband brought home a second hand laptop and she decided to “give that writing thing a serious go.”
Lauren had no idea how fabulously wonderful it would feel to actually make a go of her writing and she’s thankful every day people actually want to read what she writes! She’s well aware of her good fortune and loves every moment of it, even when she has to edit and put Barbie’s dresses back on over and over again. She still hasn’t managed to figure out how to shut out the sound of Wizards of Waverly Place so she can write a love scene, though.

Book Releases

IT another book releases week . . .

Antigoddess (Goddess War #1) by Kendare Blake

Antigoddess (Goddess War, #1)The Goddess War begins in Antigoddess, the first installment of the new series by acclaimed author of Anna Dressed in Blood, Kendare Blake.

Old Gods never die…

Or so Athena thought. But then the feathers started sprouting beneath her skin, invading her lungs like a strange cancer, and Hermes showed up with a fever eating away his flesh. So much for living a quiet eternity in perpetual health.

Desperately seeking the cause of their slow, miserable deaths, Athena and Hermes travel the world, gathering allies and discovering enemies both new and old. Their search leads them to Cassandra—an ordinary girl who was once an extraordinary prophetess, protected and loved by a god.

These days, Cassandra doesn’t involve herself in the business of gods—in fact, she doesn’t even know they exist. But she could be the key in a war that is only just beginning.

Because Hera, the queen of the gods, has aligned herself with other of the ancient Olympians, who are killing off rivals in an attempt to prolong their own lives. But these anti-gods have become corrupted in their desperation to survive, horrific caricatures of their former glory. Athena will need every advantage she can get, because immortals don’t just flicker out.

Every one of them dies in their own way. Some choke on feathers. Others become monsters. All of them rage against their last breath.

The Goddess War is about to begin.

The Waking Dark by

The Waking DarkThey called it the killing day. Twelve people dead, all in the space of a few hours. Five murderers: neighbors, relatives, friends. All of them so normal. All of them seemingly harmless. All of them now dead by their own hand . . . except one. And that one has no answers to offer the shattered town. She doesn't even know why she killed—or whether she'll do it again.

Something is waking in the sleepy town of Oleander's, Kansas—something dark and hungry that lives in the flat earth and the open sky, in the vengeful hearts of upstanding citizens. As the town begins its descent into blood and madness, five survivors of the killing day are the only ones who can stop Oleander from destroying itself. Jule, the outsider at war with the world; West, the golden boy at war with himself; Daniel, desperate for a different life; Cass, who's not sure she deserves a life at all; and Ellie, who believes in sacrifice, fate, and in evil. Ellie, who always goes too far. They have nothing in common. They have nothing left to lose. And they have no way out. Which means they have no choice but to stand and fight, to face the darkness in their town—and in themselves.

In space, love had boundaries.

---------------------------

Written for young readers and adults, Imran Siddiq’s debut ‘Disconnect’, a Young Adult Science Fiction with Romance, begins a trilogy entwining fear, corruption and desire.

Told from the viewpoint of a male, the novel addresses real-world issues such as fighting injustice, understanding the urge for change, and uncovering secrets that affect lives.

In a world of novels dominated by wizards, vampires, and werewolves, isn't it time for a hero to rise from the deprived to protect a girl he hardly knows?

Now for an excerpt of book three: DISRUPTS

Chapter 6

There was no mistaking whose machinery was grinding its way up the banks to reach the top of the ship.
Zachary continued to stare upward, not distracted by the Haulage-404’s shadow covering him. Almost all of the androids had left to recharge and the few that remained continued welding the front fins on the ship’s underside. The loss of Sean hadn’t diminished in his thoughts.
Patch crouched. “Your comments to Rupert and Percy have been circulated amongst the androids. They are all concerned that you are affected and may be making incorrect decisions.”
“How many others have died?” Zachary sighed. “In the last three weeks, how many?”
Patch’s blue eyes dimmed. “Seventeen are defunct.”
“Because of the ship?”
“Accidents can happen.”
“Because of me,” muttered Zachary. He shuffled backwards to sit up against the rear tail of the ship. “They’ve all got it into their heads that I’m special and it’s okay to die to satisfy me. Well, it doesn’t satisfy me.”
The droid’s finger tapped a pinned metal sheet. “Every android has a role to serve. Without their masters, they desist from functioning and would risk seizing up all together.”
Zachary scrunched up, bringing his head down to his knees. “Having me gives them a reason to function.”
“Precisely.”
“And you?” He gave the droid a worried look. “Will you keep damaging yourself for me?”
“If it helps, then yes.”
“No more. No more looking after me. I want you to look after the androids. Tell them to be careful. They’re all important to me, especially you,” stressed Zachary.
Patch’s shoulders rolled. “I will do my best, but androids can be stubborn.”
Zachary smiled. “I know.”
Flickers sprinkled from the ship’s side as high-pitched welding drowned out the banging of pipes running along the cavern. Being so close to the ceiling somehow felt safer. Even though the environment contained muck and smelled, the area built by the androids served them well.
Patch cocked his head. “There is something else troubling you.”
Tracing the deep-rooted smudges on his palms, Zachary waited for the welding to cease. “What am I doing, Patch?”
“I do not understand?”
“We’re rushing to get this ship ready to take us out and up into space.” It sounded stupid, even to Zachary. A few weeks ago, and he had sat in his room, gliding his hand through the air and imagining the glory of flight. “What if it doesn’t work?”
“Confidence. Benedict Scott has been working on this project for a lengthy time. He is not one to put effort into a futile task.”
Trusting the mechanic hadn’t let Zachary down yet. The mathematical diagrams and the crisscrossing screens in the Planning Room made the launch seem simple, except it hadn’t got beyond that yet.

I received an ebook of Disconnect(Book One) for me to review,

Review
Zachary Conner goes days by days, scavenge whatever he can find until one thing he finds that seems out of place for an Underworlder. A blip of a screen show a partial of a young female, but what

Zachary doesn't know is that he is one step closer to finding who this person is. Rosa kade a young otherworld teenager, whoses life might not be all as it seems.

So when Rosa and Zachary meets, there mutual feeling however there's a deep dark secret that could change everything what people knew and understood about their worlds.

I'm giving this 3 cat tails up, the concept was very straight forward that things were almost preciable however there were things that confused me but maybe reading it again I'll have a better understanding.

Meow, Meow, Meow
Well there's not much to say, the world building was very straight forward where you either live in the dirt or you live in luster of diamonds. I thought it would be more visualize due to it being dystopia, world changing as well with living on other planets. Scientists for years have found evidence that we could truly live on other planets.

In this book people spend their life trading, building and working to keep their world liveable and apart from the poor and riches, however this book spent a thrid of it with Zachary trading and figuring out if there life beyond the Underworld and Rosa provides him that. But Rosa tis he daughter of the ambassador of Otherworlder, doesn't know life outside her own until she meets Zachary.

The book gave me struggle to stay interested in, it just wasn't enough plots to keep me interested so I'm trying to force myself to really finished it.  I'm putting this under my re-read sections beacause something reading a book a second time my thoughts might change.
