Top 10 Tuesday

Top 10 Tuesday

This is my first or second attempt to participate in this Top 10 Tuesday that is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Today Top 10 Tuesday post is about what you recently added to your TBR pile, now I'm going to cheat a little because some of my recent TBR list add-on were actual purchase I've made and listed them in a certain list on my goodreads and also on books that should have been on my TBR way before but was too lazy to add them on.

How to Love by Katie Cotugno

How to Love
Before:
Reena Montero has loved Sawyer LeGrande for as long as she can remember: as natural as breathing, as endless as time. But he's never seemed to notice that Reena even exists until one day, impossibly, he does. Reena and Sawyer fall in messy, complicated love. But then Sawyer disappears from their humid Florida town without a word, leaving a devastated—and pregnant—Reena behind.

After:
Almost three years have passed, and there's a new love in Reena's life: her daughter, Hannah. Reena's gotten used to being without Sawyer, and she's finally getting the hang of this strange, unexpected life. But just as swiftly and suddenly as he disappeared, Sawyer turns up again. Reena doesn't want anything to do with him, though she'd be lying if she said Sawyer's being back wasn't stirring something in her. After everything that's happened, can Reena really let herself love Sawyer LeGrande again?

In this breathtaking debut, Katie Cotugno weaves together the story of one couple falling in love—twice.

The last thing Ada wants is to help the infuriating Alliance guard who arrested her, but it soon becomes clear that the Alliance knows too much about Ada’s offworld origins. Book Review: Cruel Beauty

Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge

Cruel Beauty Graceling meets Beauty and the Beast in this sweeping fantasy about one girl's journey to fulfill her destiny and the monster who gets in her way-by stealing her heart.

Based on the classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast, Cruel Beauty is a dazzling love story about our deepest desires and their power to change our destiny.

Since birth, Nyx has been betrothed to the evil ruler of her kingdom-all because of a foolish bargain struck by her father. And since birth, she has been in training to kill him.

With no choice but to fulfill her duty, Nyx resents her family for never trying to save her and hates herself for wanting to escape her fate. Still, on her seventeenth birthday, Nyx abandons everything she's ever known to marry the all-powerful, immortal Ignifex. Her plan? Seduce him, destroy his enchanted castle, and break the nine-hundred-year-old curse he put on her people.

But Ignifex is not at all what Nyx expected. The strangely charming lord beguiles her, and his castle-a shifting maze of magical rooms-enthralls her.

As Nyx searches for a way to free her homeland by uncovering Ignifex's secrets, she finds herself unwillingly drawn to him. Even if she could bring herself to love her sworn enemy, how can she refuse her duty to kill him? With time running out, Nyx must decide what is more important: the future of her kingdom, or the man she was never supposed to love.

Review
How do you prepared yourself for a curse? How do you prepare youself when your life was bargained even before you were born?

Nxy had to learn how to fight in hopes to kill the evil prince Ignifex who bargains people's life, and if they don't say it the right way then you end up getting more than you bargain for.

The people of the kingdom are hoping that Nyx can end this curse that is upon their land but is Nyx strong enough to actually fulfilled what they expect from her?

I give this an 2.5 Cat Tails Up, it just lack what my perspective of the fairy tale of Beauty and the Beast.

MEOW . . . MEOW . . . MEOW
This book really REALLY took a long time to get to certain points and part of the reasons why it took me a while to finish the book was because of the lack of adventures and excitement in the book. I really thought it would have a similarity to the Beauty and the Beast story that I know but so much of it was lost in myths and legends explanations which really bored me.

The lack of where Nyx has to kill this evil ruler of the kingdom that got an 900 year old curse that everyone relies on her to break. The book really didn't mention a whole lot about this "Curse" and the basic part of it was about the true prince of the kingdom and what he bargained with the GODS.

I like some of the details as far the visual aspect of the book but it also got me a little confused at the same time. I wish there was some more of a romantic aspect, I mean the thing with Shade whose a Shadow was interesting at the beginning but then it dissipate and somehow Shade turn against Nyx which I didn't understand.

If Nyx is supposed to kill Ignifex why not some sparring? I mean he timdates Nyx enough that you would think she would want to fight even if it not him being serious. But he said that he'll let her go if she figures out his name which proves to be more a challenge with interchanging rooms and halls.

The Ending was MEH I didn't know what to think apart that I kind of figure out that Shade was the actual prince but why did Nyx end up home after he made another plea bargain? I couldn't tell if he did that to save her from the bargaining God or what, I was just extremely confused.

This book did not do it for me as far as the fairy tale of beauty and the beast, not even close which is disappointing because I had hope for if and had also consider gifting this book to a friend who loves beauty and the beauty.

Book Review: Cold Blood

Cold Blood (Dirty Blood #2)

by Heather Hildenbrand

Cold Blood (Dirty Blood #2)Wood Point Academy is not at all what I expected. For one thing, it looks like a cross between military school and Buckingham Palace. Everyone stares, the floors shine so bright you can see your reflection in them from a mile away, and no one smiles. Unless they're kicking your butt in the process.

At least I've got plenty to take my mind off the fact that my psycho cousin, Miles De'Luca, keeps calling and declaring his love and promising to come for me just as soon as he's destroyed anyone standing in our way. Wes isn't going to like that idea. So between Miles, Wood Point's evil welcoming committee, and the drill sergeant hottie trainer from hell, I just keep asking myself, how did I end up here?

Review
Being the new girl at a new school isn't easy but it's much worst when that students at this new school are all hunters. With an nurture & nature hatred towards werewolves.

Her mixed DNA that makes her a target . . .

Tara must learn everything about the hunter side of her  . . . whether she like it or not

Troubles are stirring but training is a kick in the butt for Tara.

Miles is still out there claiming there is a bigger plan in mind than what the hunters and werewolves should be worry about.

Can Tara prove herself worthy of being a hunter . . .

Or will something else take over?

I give this a 4 Cat's Tails Up, Overall I like this book. I think there were something that could have made it even better however it was a nice setup and broad horizon to Tara's future training. Plus a NEW Guy to drool over.

MEOW . . . MEOW . . . MEOW

Poor Tara, she has to make such an adjustment to normal school straight to academy training for elite hunters. It worst when she is called names because of her mixed blood, but what little do they do is the political influence her family name truly represent.

Logan and Cambria:
I love these two as a friend for Tara, she certainly needed one or two after all the criticizing Tara getting from the rest of the school. Some that were scared to be near Tara, some that were making jabs at Tara for her mixed blood but not Logan or Cambria, although it took Logan a while to warm up but Cambria was best friends on the the spot.

Alex vs Wes
Okay I know Wes is Tara's boyfriend but with his lack of appearance in the book even though Tara is at a school. It showed that Wes is too conflicted with his duties and trying to maintain a relationship of a destiny that Vera saw that probably put him on edge.

Now ALEX he's hot like he's a hot character to read,at first I wasn't so sure about him until that first kiss THEN I knew something was up! Honestly I like Alex like really really LIKE, I actually hope that he would possibly be Tara's new beau just because there's chemistry between them and you can't deny chemistry.
His past is really tragic and I'm surprise that he would share something so personal to Tara and I wonder just how much he likes her despite her "DNA" that everyone judges her on.

KISS TALLY
Alex: 2 and 2 near kisses
Wes: 2
Really Heather? is that just a coincidence that there wasn't more kissing between Alex and Tara over Wes and Tara?

More Meowing Meow
I'm not sure how much political aspect that Heather will put in as far Tara's future in the series, but I hope that it's not too heavy to determine where she wants to stand. As far the new guy in the picture I say bring him on!

What will be the new threat that both Hunters and Werewolves need to worry about and once they figure it out, will it be too late?

Will Tara date Alex???????

What will Wes do . . .

Book Review: The Naturals

The Naturals (The Naturals #1)

by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

The Naturals (The Naturals, #1)Seventeen-year-old Cassie is a natural at reading people. Piecing together the tiniest details, she can tell you who you are and what you want. But it’s not a skill that she’s ever taken seriously. That is, until the FBI come knocking: they’ve begun a classified program that uses exceptional teenagers to crack infamous cold cases, and they need Cassie.

What Cassie doesn’t realize is that there’s more at risk than a few unsolved homicides—especially when she’s sent to live with a group of teens whose gifts are as unusual as her own. Sarcastic, privileged Michael has a knack for reading emotions, which he uses to get inside Cassie’s head—and under her skin. Brooding Dean shares Cassie’s gift for profiling, but keeps her at arm’s length.

Soon, it becomes clear that no one in the Naturals program is what they seem. And when a new killer strikes, danger looms closer than Cassie could ever have imagined. Caught in a lethal game of cat and mouse with a killer, the Naturals are going to have to use all of their gifts just to survive.

Review
What do you do if you have an Natural ability?

Cassie has always profiled people, she has a natural ability to know who they are and what type of person they are.

Still haunted of her mother's murder which is now a cold case, the special program for the FBI might just help her get one step closer to possibly solving her mother's case once and for all.

BUT  . . .

What do you do when the recent murders has similar concepts to your mother's case?

Cassie and the FBI must work fast before another women is murder, but what do you do if the killer is closer to you and know every single step you move?

I'm giving this a 4.5 Cat's Tails up, I would really rate this a 5 cat's tails up however I'm saving the 5 for Killer Insticnt because that one deserves a 5 Cat's Tails up.

THIS BOOK!!!!!

All Cassie ever want is to solve her mother's murder, but if working for the FBI special program will get her one step closer to solving it then how can she turn down this opportunity?

Women similar to her mothers case are turning up dead, while Cassie learns the way of thinking like a killer she also struggle with keeping thing apart from her mothers case although little things keeps adding on the murders.

I love how Jennifer created her characters with such an uniqueness in them but the one has kept me wondering from the start was Dean. I wanted to know why he had such a darkness to him and why he was so closed off. However and this is a big big theory I detected that Dean has a likeness toward Cassie although he himself would never admit even after a dare that Cassie had to kiss him.

The twist that Jennifer created in the book was beyond my imagination! I mean I did not see that coming or had any idea whatsoever. I'm not going to say whose responsible for the deaths so you will have to read it!

I almost wished that I didn't wait too long to start this but again now I'm sitting here waiting for book three to come out. Book Reader problems as always.

What I like LOVE about this book was the characters and the little paranormal sense that each of the characters has, starting with Cassie who NATURAL ability is profiling people. She could profile anyone except for who killed her mother, that remains a mystery.

Cassie meets Sloane, Michael, Lia and Dean . . . who all have a Natural ability but Cassie shares on Natural ability with another, DEAN.

While reading this book I got a big sense of the Supernatural brothers, Dean as Dean and Michael as Sam on many levels but really Dean stood out. He's a complex character that's for sure! I totally have a crush on him!

Jen's casting of Dean was Douglas Booth whom I've never heard of but I kind of had to imagine Jensen Ackles in a younger version  So I pick Logan Lerman (trust me he could pull it off) But then there's the actual actor that plays Young Dean in supernatural (I couldn't find the actor name)

http://41.media.tumblr.com/843e5868d2ce1c3c3263145fbee48413/tumblr_nafalwSjA91qf2zyko1_500.png

Michael is growing on me but I'm crossing fingers for Dean . . .

Overall Jennifer has got me hooked on this series! It been awhile since I've read a book where I'm directly hooked on the whole thing.

Stay tuned for Killer Instinct review!

Kitty Blitz: Turtle Bay + Excerpt

Turtle Bay By Tiffany King

Turtle BayIf you're a teenager in a small, rural area, how do you exist when your eccentric, free-spirited parents are the town freaks everyone laughs at?

For sixteen-year-old Rainbow Honeywell—or Rain, as she insists on being called—the answer was to become the queen of all pranks. She never wanted to be a troublemaker, but the label quickly stuck when everyone in Huntsville, Kansas, became a target. All she wanted was to deflect the negative attention off her parents, but Rain's plan backfired to the max, landing her in a heap of trouble with the local authorities and expelled from high school.

An unexpected inheritance offers Rain an opportunity for a new beginning when she and her family move across the country to the quaint beach community of Turtle Bay, Florida.

Determined to make the best of her second chance, Rain vows to walk the straight and narrow, hoping her parents will fly under the radar while she soaks up some fun in the sun, sandy beaches, and hot, tanned guys. Unfortunately, she picks the wrong new friends, and a late night party lands her back in the kind of trouble she had been hoping to avoid. As the newbie in town with a record, Rain takes the brunt of the punishment when an unforgiving judge chooses to make an example out of her and slaps her with enough community service hours to keep her busy until she is old and gray.

Facing the harsh reality of paying for the actions of others while atoning for her own past sins, Rain is paired up with Josh Shaw, a judgmental local lifeguard whose love for the beach and the environment is eclipsed only by his distaste for those who trash it. As far as Josh is concerned, Rain is guilty and got what she deserved, regardless of her side of the story. To make matters worse, a tropical storm sits in the Atlantic, threatening to wreak havoc on the small beach community.

Things slowly change as Rain begins to appreciate her surroundings through Josh's eyes, proving she is not the person he thinks she is. Their feelings for one another blossom as the tropical storm grows into a hurricane and bears down on Turtle Bay. With impending danger looming, the small beach community must come together in order to ride out the storm.

 Excerpt

"Going to the party?" a soft voice asked from the darkness, making me jump. It took less than a half a second to realize it was Turtle Boy.
"Stalk much?" I asked, placing a hand on my heart. The sudden rapid beating had as much to do with seeing him again as it did with being startled. "What do you do, work twenty-four seven?"
"Just passing by to make sure you and your friends don't use the beach as your own personal trash can."
"Just because we like to have fun doesn't mean we're all asshats who litter," I countered. "Are you always such a dick, or is that just for my benefit?"
Even in the dark I could see his eyes narrow. He didn't answer right away, and I was beginning to think he really was a tool. He surprised me by shooting me a rueful smile a moment later.
"I guess I am being a dick, huh?" he replied, running a hand over the top of his head. "I'm not usually this way."
"Great, so it is for my benefit."
He actually shocked me when a small smile split across his face, making my breath catch in my throat. If I thought he was cute before with a scowl, then a smile made him downright hot. It was the kind of smile that accentuated every other feature of his face.
He stepped from the shadows and his eyes sparkled slightly from the dim light of the streetlamp. I was tempted to ask him if he was wearing contacts. Surely no one had eyes as brilliant as his looked.

Kitty Blitz: Broken Blood

How do you defeat an enemy that knows your every thought … even as you think it?

I thought watching my Werewolf boyfriend get arrested for murder was the worst experience of my life. But then I was knocked out and dragged off to a cell of my own by the very people who were supposed to protect me from danger.

I thought being held prisoner in solitary confinement for weeks on end was the worst experience of my life. But then a visitor came, and I realized I’d been wrong all along. There are worse things than torture and death. Much worse.

He wants my blood. More than that, he wants to get into my head. To use my bond to control his army, to wipe the world clean of anything with dirty blood. I can’t let that happen, but if I don’t he’ll kill every single person I’ve ever cared about—beginning with my Werewolf pack.

The prophecy said I would have to make an impossible choice, but I must be doing this wrong—so far every choice I’ve made has only led to more pain and danger and death. Hunters are pitted against Werewolves and I’m alone in my war against Gordon Steppe. I can’t fight him off anymore; all I can do is try to keep him out of the important places. And I’m failing at even that.

I thought the demons were out there, clearly marked and clinging to the shadows. But they’re not. The monsters are within the ranks of those sworn to protect. The enemy is among us.
