The Host Review

As a promise to one of my BFFs I did in fact read it before the movie which comes out March 29, 2013. So now I will present you my review on The Host

The Host by Stephenie Meyer, first released in May 2008. Now with mass paperback cover released in January 2013. Published by Little, Brown, and Company. Print edition 864 pages

Goodread Description
Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of human hosts while leaving their bodies intact. Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, didn't expect to find its former tenant refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.
As Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of Jared, a human who still lives in hiding, Wanderer begins to yearn for a man she's never met. Reluctant allies, Wanderer and Melanie set off to search for the man they both love.
Featuring one of the most unusual love triangles in literature, THE HOST is a riveting and unforgettable novel about the persistence of love and the essence of what it means to be human.

REVIEW
The human race is now nearly extinct, the aliens or"souls" have taking over our body and mind. But there are still fewthat fight back. Melanie Stryder's mind and body has been taken over by a"Soul" named Wanderer and Melanie becomes a soul. However Melaniefights back, her will still hold on as well conceal her thoughts and anyinformation about where the human resistance lies. But Wanderer is overwhelmedby Melanie's memories and emotions. Now Wanderer is on search for the humanresistance, more importantly follow Melanie's memories and her emotions. Now inthe middle of the desert, Wanderer is lost but soon to be found by Uncle Jeb.Although one look at Melanie's eyes, Uncle Jeb and others of the humanresistance knows that she isn't Melanie. Now Melanie/Wanderer are now in theresistance hideout, not that the resistance are happy that she still lives butwith Jared being irrational and Ian being the mediator, things are not as theyseem. Wanda/Melanie begins to work together with the resistance and Wandabecomes the most unusual soul the resistance has met. A new romance bloomswhile Melanie struggles to cease to exist in her own body and struggle to seeJared torturing himself thinking she’s no longer there. A new outlook comewhere Wanda said that there is a way to bring back Melanie and possibly othersif they survive the initiation of a soul being place in them. Something goodwill come from Melanie/Wanda return.

Ramble
As much I love Meyer's Twilight Saga's, it was one of the series that made me read more books and find other wonderful authors. I really like her writing in this book, maybe because it science-fiction, or that it doesn't deal with so many life/death situation like Bella seems to run into, or I like how Wanda/Melanie have their own conversation with one another. I think this is one of the most science-fiction book I've read and like it. There's no love triangle as some people would say, but this is how Jake Abel and Max Irons puts it "There's two of us as the base of triangle but technically there's two of her" That makes a lot of sense boys thanks for pointing that out. So the romance is much more complex than a triangle, Wanda loves Ian and Melanie loves Jared.  I like the concept of the book where aliens invades our body and mind even with the change where you could disappear forever. I hope that Stephanie bring out the second book soon even though she is writing it but I'm curious what next for these people in the next book.

Team Jared or Team Ian?
From the beginning I didn't know who I was going to like, from the pages of the book Melanie has memories of Jared while Wanda sees them. So Jared at the beginning I like him and I like the love story between Melanie and Jared. But then when Melanie becomes Wanda and Jared is now part of the human resistance and one of the leader . . . he was just irritating. I kept trying to figure out what he was going to do during those times he has the gun and then he can't think beyond. Then we have Ian who is very collected with himself and see beyond what most humans see of the souls. Then Ian see Wanda and see more of her rather than what she really is as a soul. So now there's conflict between Ian and Jared because to Jared, it his love that's been invaded and had believe she was forever gone until Wanda said that she is still here. Jared starts making the rules toward Ian cause he knows that Ian taken an interest in the love of his life. However Ian doesn't care about who Wanda is hosted in but more of her personality and who she is as a soul and as an individual. So who would I chose? I would choose Ian over Jared just because Ian was more together, had a clear mind and had a goal while Jared lost all sense of who he was when Melanie return and was tortured by the fact she had returned but been invaded.  Now Jared and Ian have to work together to help Wanda/Melanie to stop the seeker and the souls from taking what is left of the Human Resistance.

Currently Reading: Kitty Norville Style

This week I am reading Carrie Vaughn's Kitty Norville series, now I've started reading this series back in May of 2012 and I have to say first book is great but then somehow second book just doesn't fit the bill. But then the third it like "I can't put it down!" and then it time for a change.

So now I'm finally on Book Five of Kitty Norville "Kitty and the Dead Man's Hand" . . . .

How the last book ended with an proposal and now this book is about eloping but for Kitty, just doing something normal for once always involves with something supernatural and a job.

Kitty and the Dead Man's Hand

Kitty and the Dead Man's Hand (Kitty Norville, #5)
HONEYMOON IN VEGAS?

Already the alpha pair of Denver's werewolf pack, Kitty and Ben now plan to tie the knot human-style by eloping to Vegas. Kitty is looking forward to sipping fru-fru drinks by the pool and doing her popular radio show on live TV, but her hotel is stocked with werewolf-hating bounty hunters. Elsewhere on the Strip an old-school magician might be wielding the real thing; the vampire community is harboring a dark secret; and the irresistible star of a suspicious animal act is determined to seduce Kitty. Sin City has never been so wild, and this werewolf has never had to fight harder to save not only her wedding, but her very life

I started reading this book last night and already am in love with how the pace of the read is, I'm curious who's going to be the villain and will Kitty pulled through and get married?

So far Kitty and Ben have been trying very hard on how to plan the wedding but instead Kitty thought why not elope? I mean that is totally her style! But then with Kitty's radio talk show her boss suggested why not do a live televise show while she's in Las Vegas?

Um yeah hello I was going to Vegas to get married . . . not to work but she can't really complain since everything is paid for when she does work travels. Ben wasn't too happy to hear that Kitty was going to be working but he made her agree to not nag on him while he gamble in the casino while she works.

But the hotel that Kitty doing her live televise show? They are also hosting a gun show the same weekend and that makes her very uncomfortable considering all things that happen in Washington and Silver Bullets are not her friend.

So what will happen next as I continue to read it? I have no idea but something tells me trouble isn't very far away and Ben just might not be around to help her out . . .

Don't Let it End! Currently Reading

This is a very sad time for me . . . I am reading the final book of an amazing series. It's one that I've gasped, scream, cried and the ooh ahhs.

I've been a huge fan of this author by all of her series that she's written and anxiously waiting for what her new projects are about. Rachel Vincent is her name and she's an amazing author for both Young adult and Adult Fiction.

Now what is this book I'm talking about? It's the Soul Screamers series, it consist of seven books and three novellas. Before I Wake has a super short story called "A Day in the Afterlife of Tod". This is her longest series she ever wrote dated back in 2009 when My Soul to Take was released.

Rachel has a theme for her Soul Screamers books based on the seven deadly sins, My Soul To Take’s theme was vanity. My Soul To Save was greed, My Soul To Keep was gluttony (addiction), My Soul To Steal was envy, and If I Die was lust and Before I Wake was Sloth. Now With All My Soul it's WAR.

OK I've yapped on the series and the author (Bio is at the end of the post), now what is WAMS?

With All My Soul (Soul Screamers, #7)With All My Soul

What does it mean when your school is voted the most dangerous in America? It's time to kick some hellion butt...
After not really surviving her junior year (does "undead" count as survival?), Kaylee Cavanaugh has vowed to take back her school from the hellions causing all the trouble. She's going to find a way to turn the incarnations of Avarice, Envy and Vanity against one another in order to protect her friends and finish this war, once and forever.
But then she meets Wrath and understands that she's closer to the edge than she's ever been. And when one more person close to her is taken, Kaylee realizes she can't save everyone she loves without risking everything she has....

So I will be spending the rest of today and tomorrow reading this book and then probably read it again and review it for myself and my bloggers friends/followers. As well for Fiktshun's Soul Screamers mini-challenge.

I can't wait to see what happen, does Kaylee get a happy ending? I will be writing the most important review of my life just because this is the final book and I'm not going to write it lightly.  Happy reading to me and FYI doesn't the gold just suit Kaylee?
