32 & a Half Complications

Thirty-Two and a Half Complications (Rose Gardner #5)

by Denise Grover Swank

Thirty-Two and a Half Complications (Rose Gardner, #5)The fifth book in the USA Today Bestselling Rose Gardner Mystery series.

There’s no denying trouble finds Rose Gardner like a divining rod finds water, especially when Rose lands in the middle of a bank robbery. But after the robbers steal her deposit bag—containing a large amount of cash—she soon finds out that trouble is threatening her business as well, thanks to her sister Violet’s financial mismanagement.

To top it off, Rose’s ex-boyfriend, Joe Simmons, has moved back to Henryetta to fill the chief deputy sheriff position. Rose’s involvement as a witness is the perfect opportunity for Joe to reinsert himself into her life. But Mason Deveraux, Fenton County Assistant District Attorney and Rose’s new boyfriend, has waited too long for Rose to give her up without a fight.

Rose’s pregnant best friend, Neely Kate, suggests they find the robbers using Rose’s visions and Neely Kate’s knowledge about everyone in town. The women are soon hot on the trail of the stolen money, but Rose is caught off guard when Neely Kate’s snoopiness detects the biggest complication of all: Rose might be expecting a baby of her own.

Review
Things are heating up in Rose Gardner's life . . . her new relationship with Mason is fast-growing but is it too fast?

Thievery! Thievery! Thievery!

With a loss of money might put Rose's and Violet's business out of business before it can flourish.
Rose will do anything to get her money back but how far is she willing to go?

Things just might put Rose in the face of dangers, how about helping Skeeter Malcom?
I give this 4.5 cats Tails Up, the dynamics in Rose's life is giving her her own voice, she's truly growing into the person she needs to be.

Meow . . . Meow . . . Meow
WARNING there might be spoilers.
Rose is starting her new life at her mother's now hers farmhouse, and honestly I'm so happy that Rose is starting off new in this book. Yes she is still dealing with some sort of guilt about her and Joe but the reality was what Rose was getting from Joe was not all 100% genuine even though Joe said it was.

Joe is too conflicted with his father and the political power he has, but with his on and off again fling with Hilary that makes even more tough to actually trust Joe's words. But now Joe is the new sheriff of Henryetta county and he's willing to do ANYTHING to try and win Rose back.

Mason and Rose romance just keeps getting hotter!!!! Mason fits right in with Rose life and he truly does love Rose even when he tends to be overprotective. He knows not to hold her back but he also knows that Rose ends up digging for trouble which drives him crazy.

Rose and Violet shop are in dangers of bankruptcy or very deep in debt, but with a bank robbing that Rose got stuck in the middle of it all lost the money that would keep everything afloat. Unsure of what to do she turns to Bruce who might be able to help her, all Rose want is her money back but first she must help the new mob King Skeeter Malcolm to find out who is plotting to kill him.

Aside from family and a few selected friends, Rose never shares that she gets visions but a little slip of the tongue by Bruce Wayne now makes Skeeter want Rose to work for him in return to get her money back that was stolen. But Skeeter asked Rose for a vision to make sure that she's legit and Rose ends up seeing and experience something she never had before.

However helping out a mob king isn't the least of her problems, she also might be expecting which is too fast in her brand new relationship with Mason.

The new adventure Rose's life I believe are just starting and I can't wait to read more!

Review
Do you believe in fairy tales?

Is it all magical happy ending?

Princesses in disguises,
Evil-doers in disguise,
and princes in disguise.

Fairy tale Confessions is a modern twist of fairy tales we grew up with.

I give this 4 Cat's Tales Up, While I enjoyed some of the tales, there were other that weren't my taste and that's okay. You can't like all fairy tales.

MEOW . . . MEOW . . . MEOW
This fairy tale anthology was a fun mixture of the fairy tales we grew up with with a modern twist. I wish I could talk about all the fairly tale that were in this anthology but some were tales I've never heard of and others were just not my taste. But the ones I'm going to talk about are Blayze & Ash (Beauty and the Beast fairy tale),  Rell (Cinderella fairy tale), and Caged (Rapunzel fairy tale) those are the one that stood out to me.

The retold of Beauty and the Beast, Blayze and Ash had a interesting twist in the whole BEAST aspect. Even more so of how to break the "CURSE", I like that the characters had their own sad pasts. It what brought Blayze and Ash close together, but everyone paints Blayze the bad guy but I honestly think he was simply misunderstood. For Ash she saw that and trusted her judgment until the EPIC party that Blayze always hosts take a dark turn. The ending was surprising and Ash's love for Blayze shows love conquer all.

Rell was for sure the modern twist of Cinderalla and I love that Rell is talent designer waiting to be found. The prince in this tale seem genuine to Rell but Rell let's the evil step-mother and step-sisters in the way of her happiness. She also let her insecurity get in the way, I almost wonder if she was going to get a happy ending and she sort of did but its not like in Cinderella where she get married. It's more of starting over with what her insecurity tarnished.

I also want to share this that was just on facebook and I think Rell could easily master it!

Caged I was extremely surprise on how much I love this! I was never into Rapunzel, something never clicked even if I read books and I can't really say if I've ever watched any movies. I love the twist in this story and the whole whose the prince and whose the bad guy. It almost like it should be it's own contemporary romance story. Needless to say I'd enjoyed Caged and I love the small twists it had.

Review
How do you piece up your broken heart?
How do you stand against your family?
The answer . . .

Time and a lot of healing
You don't, you must abide them

Two different path means sacrifice

Read the after math of Rose and Joe's breakup in Falling to Pieces

I give this 4.5 Cats Tails Up, read inbetween the lines.

MEOW . . .  MEOW . . . MEOW
So honestly I'm still a Team Mason, although picking up the pieces reflects a lot on Joe and his feelings through the whole dinner nightmare ordeal. But Joe will always do what daddy wants him to do.

I like that this novella focus a lot on Joe since we already seen how Rose felt but now we saw the aftermath. Even Violet played a role in trying to protect Rose but Rose makes her own choices and she has to learn from her choices.

I still can't believe how much JR is such an influence of a lot of Fenton county problems even if it's not stated, he's is the mastermind behind all things. Honestly the Simmons family is as stuck up a rich family can be, if any low class person steps within feet of them they are speck of dirt.

Needless to say Rose didn't stand a chance and Joe was never going to be able to run his own life.

Rose is very heartbroken, I love how Neely Kate invited her a gathering where she even invited Mason. I love that small interaction they had with one another. I love that Mason was giving Rose space even when Rose thought he was avoiding her but Mason didn't want to push her.

This novella really showed what was going on after the breakup, now having to have read all the Rose Gardner Series I truly think that Rose will never go back to Joe. Joe probably won't ever be able to get Rose back no matter how hard he tries.

Spoiler thoughts if you haven't read 32, or 33 or even the novella . . .
And to make note about Hilary baby daddy, I still think JR is the father because when you think of it he could have easily knock her up after Hilary and Joe did it when he was in a drunken state so the fact that who's the father still yet remains a secret and that Hilary won't consent to a paternity test means that she has something to hide.

FOREVER WITH YOU Excerpt

I spotted Roxy and her blue glasses toward the back of the busy restaurant. The walkways between the booths were crowded with racing kids covered in sticky jelly and older people trying to rein them in as I made my way toward them.
Roxy’s hair was pulled up in a messy bun and her eyes squinted as she glanced up at me. “You seriously went running before you came here. You weren’t lying.”
“Nope. I try to run every day.” I sat beside Katie, who compared to Friday night was dressed down in a baby blue off-the-shoulder sweater that looked like sequins had thrown up on it. Her blond hair was pulled back in a low ponytail at the nape of her neck. “I have to work out,” I explained, placing my purse between Katie and me. “I eat like five starving guys in college. It’s actually embarrassing how much food I can consume in one sitting.”
Katie laughed. “I don’t have that problem. I can eat whatever I want and not gain a pound. Actually, I’d probably lose weight.” Her shoulders rose in a shrug. “Sucks to be you all.”
Roxy scowled at her. “You don’t need to rub it in, you know.”
“Don’t hate me because I was born this way.” Katie grinned when Roxy rolled her eyes. “Maybe it’s Maybelline. Maybe it’s Katie.”
            I giggle snorted.
The waitress appeared at our table, clicking the pen she’d pulled out of the pocket of her apron. She took our drink order and then dashed off to fulfill it, her white sneakers squeaking across the floor.
“I’m glad you came,” Roxy said, propping her elbows on the table. “I was worried I was going to have to search you down and force you to come eat with us.”
I laughed again. “I’m pretty sure you’d have a hard time doing that.”
“I’m scrappy.” Roxy grinned. “I could take you.”
Thinking of the shiner I’d first seen her with, I decided she was probably telling the truth. “I’m glad you guys invited me.” I paused while the waitress returned with our drinks before disappearing again, then I said, “So, I know Roxy works at the bar, what about you, Katie?”
“At the club across the street from Mona’s.” Katie dumped a packet of sugar into her coffee and then picked up five more, managing to rip the tops off in one impressive swipe. “It’s a strip club.”
“Oh.” How had I not noticed a strip club across the street from Mona’s?
Katie dumped the sugar in her coffee. “I strip. I don’t dance. I take my clothes off for a living and get paid damn good money for it, too.”
            I blinked. “That’s cool.”
Her gaze turned shrewd. “You don’t have a problem with that?”
“Um, not if you don’t.” I glanced at Roxy, who was busy cleaning her glasses, a small smile pulling at her face. I picked up my soda and took a deep drink.
Katie tilted her head to the side, studying me. “Really?”
I lifted a shoulder. “Nope. Honestly. I think it’s pretty cool you have the lady balls to do it.”
A slow grin appeared. “You should do it. You’d make so much money. Hell, I’d pay to see you—”
“Katie,” sighed Roxy, resting her chin in her hand. “Stop trying to recruit rookie strippers. You do this every time you meet someone. No one has agreed yet.”
I grinned as I pictured the odd blonde roaming the city, looking for women who wanted to take their clothes off. “I don’t think I could do it. I’d get up there and then forget how to take my clothes off.”
“Taking your clothes off is the easiest part,” Katie replied seriously.
Roxy looked doubtful. “Those spandex running pants leave very little to the imagination. If I had your body, I’d walk around naked all day.”
“I have no problem getting naked when it’s—I don’t know, an intimate situation,” I announced, “but doing it in public is a different story.”
“That’s good to know,” the waitress said, pen in hand. “Do you guys know what you want to eat?”
“Awkward,” I murmured under my breath as my eyes widened.
