The Cat's Meow is the newly version of Bloggers Time, so I'm giving you some updates

Today I got a very special surprise in the mail, I mean I was in awe that there were no words.
I got my very first ARC from the Publisher, I am part of Victoria Scott's Walker family list and blogger list but I was in total darkness of what that could mean for me and now I know, you can receive ARCs and other goodies :-) 



Victoria Scott's upcoming book Fire and Blood been one of the thing buzzing for Victoria and I've follow closely on the buzzing news. I couldn't wait to Fire and Blood to come out but never in a million year, I thought I would get an ARC. This will be a milestone for me as a blogger. 

Now you're thinking "well I read books from Netgallery or Edelweiss isn't that consider ARC?" In a way yes but I'm more of the printed books than ebooks but I do read ebook that I've requested from Netgallery and Edelweiss. 

I can't wait to read FIRE AND BLOOD!!! 

 

Another note, I do have another ARC book that I won from Jennifer's Armentrout's giveaway and that was WHITE HOT KISS. I haven't started reading it yet but between now and beginning of the New Year I will. Also she signed it! 

I did get an author request back in early November but because I was in the middle of school that I couldn't read as much I would like to. I told her that I'll get around to it when I'm all done with my semester classes, Now I am done with school and I'll work hard on reading her book and get ready to write reviews and reviews that I'm behind on. 

Between now and the end of the month I'll work hard on getting everything done that I've left behind and be ready to start the new year.

Blogger Times: NaNo and Life

Well November had come and gone in a blink of an eye, I was so looking forward to making progress with my WIP for NaNo as it being my first year attempting it. I however did not make 50k, I've gain 14,777 words in the WIP that meaning I've added more context, new scenes and just adding more. However my final total for NaNo was 18619. 

 

Now I can write almost every day when life (Education) isn't in the way, for example before NaNo I was currently working on a different WIP standing at 47,438 right now. What was so great about this WIP is that it was a Pre - thought idea I had back in High School where I actually wrote an Novel. Hand written mind you and probably my worst decision ever because one it was in pencil and two sometimes I can't read my own handwriting but that was before I had a laptop.

One night in August I had a thought about this "Couples" and they were both so strongly voiced in my head and what was nice that I met up with a friend the following day, telling her about this idea and she loves the sound of it and the more I thought about it the more things came out. These two really SCREAMED at me to write their story and because I don't like thinking in a one book stance, I like thinking ahead of the future even when I don't know how the first book is going to end but all I know is that this will be a journey for them and it will be my journey to write them.

I wrote almost every day and night, sometimes I refused to rest when in the middle and other times my train of thoughts take over when I lie down for bed. I was totally in love with the story and still am.

But then Education came around and I had to put aside my writing or only write when I felt like it or really needed to write! Now I said that I would put aside this WIP and go back to different WIP and use that story for NaNo, but then my hours and willing to write lowers because school became overwhelming. So I'm not entirely disappointed about not making 50k but I know that I was willing to try.

While I'll still be writing but I'm going back to my previous WI, the one I'm in LOVE with and do edits and all the horrible things an Author has to do to their book.

Blogger Times: NaNoWriMo

Hey guys!

Now while my blog is fairly active I am not, not mentally or physically . . . I'm too busy with school and studying. Now I made a huge decision last month or three months ago that I would join NaNo, and I'm excited for that however my schooling will be getting in the way of that.

I have two HUGE anatomy tests back to back the first week of November so I will not be writing, I CAN"T write because of the hours required to study. So I will for sure not reach my word count of that week, if I do that's a miracle.

I'm with a group on FB for NaNo that is run by Denise Grover Swank, so if you want come and join us (I think, I'm not sure if it is now a closed group) 

We all have our own goals for NaNo, mine is just being able to finished this book, while apparently working on another that isn't in a deadline. I know it's crazy for me to work on two different Novels but I can't help it, I'm trying to grow this Rough Draft on NaNo that I've started before NaNo and try to complete it but I'm also working on the other Rough Draft that I'm just in love with. Two different dynamics and two completely different story.

Some advices:

1. Rough Draft are always ugly no matter how many glitz and glam you put on it to make it pretty
2. Be in the groove to write, DO NOT EVER FORCE
3. Are you the quiet setting one? Wear earplugs or tell the kids to occupy themselves
4. Are you someone that need something to help you move along? Play music (that what I do)
5. There's is inspiration all around you, You have to decide what inspires you the most. 
6. Go to Pinterest and create a characters board or visualize your book world,
7. Most importantly HAVE FUN WITH IT! 
8. Remember it's only the first draft

Blogger Times: Stacking the Shelf with Swags

Boy it's October already? well I haven't made any books hull lately but I have won a few prizes . . .

Way back in August I won a Vampire Swag Giveaway on Avery's Nook who featured Chloe Neill for Authors are Rockstars and I was so excited! I had no idea what I would be getting but I did make a effor to tell Chloe herself that I have most of her books except for the last two that been published. Nicely she said that she wasn't in control of what the publishing house send out but hey at least it was an effort.

So the month of September went by and it didn't come across me untill last week about not recieveing the Vampire Swag yet. But I told myself don't worry about it but I had to worry, see my town has two of the same name except mine is Street and the other one is Lane. So I was very worried that it was mistaken for Lane and not Street. But Lo and Behold! it finally came!

My next add was a giveaway through the truly awesome Fiktshun, there was a little email hiccups bcause for some reason I never got the email until tuesday when she contacted me. (Most giveaways I've won were from her!) So it was unusal for me not to reply but also unusal that my email never got it.

 

So the giveaway was Kresley Cole's  Endless Knight (the Arcana Chronicles #2) book, which just came out and the cover is just lovely and magicial. Now all I have to do is buy the first book and like always with my blogger/reader failure is not reading all the amazing books people gushs about.

 

So this made my week! Well I'm off to review and have a good weekend everybody!

Blogger Times: Stacking My Shelves

I know today has been a good day to me . . . I added more books to my shelves and it was a large pile.

While I'm still waiting on a few books that I've won/or ordered, I can't show pictures yet but I'm happy to share my new shiny cat toys.

After reading a post by Danny of Bewitched Bookworms where she talks about the Morganville Vampires series by Rachel Caine.

Danny gave some very high points on why we should read the Morganville Vampire series, as for me I was staying away from it because I wanted to read more about other supernatural creatures like Werewolves or people with supernatural abilities. So for the longest time I've choose to not buy any vampire books . . . the only book that counts is The Mortal Instrument: City of Lost Souls, and a few others that had tie-in with vampires.

My bookstore actually carries the volumes of the Morganville Vampires and two were in the clearance (overstock/publishers lower price) But then my amazing mom found Ghost Town in Pp and HC in clearance as well. But here's the rub . . . the HC was cheaper than the PP, Say What?

I took it as the publishing company had sold HC first then within 3 month period went straight to Pp.

Now you see two are not Rachel Caine's books but in fact Kelley Armstrong's Otherworld series, her first works of books. I had doubts that my store would actually carry her first book "Bitten" but I was in awed to find out that Plume had it reformatted with new covers and I was just dosed with catnip that I could find it. So I will be keeping my eyes out for the next couple books of the Otherworld series by Kelley.







Now the question remains, WHEN WILL I EVER HAVE THE TIME TO READ THEM?
good question . . . christmas break? school break? Summer break? Night read? Gym read? I have no clue, I really should really create a post of my goal for 2014 reads because I sort of have one just not written down on paper (its all in my head)

So I'm off to finish another book and reviews (which I've fallen greatly behind)

Blogger Times: Review & Hiatus

Sadly this will be one of the few blogging I will do since school is starting but I'm just letting you know that while I may be absent, I'll still try to blog every once in awhile.

My two topic today is Reviewing and Hiatus . . .

Reviewing

Blogging is something I love to do along with reading books however one thing that will always remain a challenge is reviewing. Yeah you think it's easy but it not when you are struggling to find the words and give a brief inside look of a book. Plus you don't want to spoil things, but my problem is determining what's a spoiler and what's not. I'm working hard on re-creating my reviewing craft but then my next problem is having the time to read and review.

I do have two books that are going to be reviewed because I've read them or I'm a part of a blog tour, so I'm battling blogger fatigue as well.

So how about you? How do you review and what are some of your guidelines or rules you follow?

 

SassyCat on Hiatus

On to hiatus, I'll be starting school very quickly here and I doubt I'll have time to read but if I do get a chance to read that would be great! But those reviews will not be going up anytime after I read the book, time is permitted. As far as blogging like I do now may be minimum but I plan to do the books releases posts since I have a word doc with a list of books being release certain months and weeks. So I will on weekends be composing and scheduling them. Hopefully there'll be a few Mouse Watch as well. Just because my blog is going to be under a long cat nap,  I'm still 100% committed to my blog but now I have to commit to school.

Blogger Times: SassyCat's Schedule

Boy! It's August already? I have so much going on with life and preparing for school again. So what is happening on SassyCat's Schedule?

What's going on with SassyCat?

Well Truthfully . . . I haven't read so much, like I said life been busy so I haven't put my time into reading and I know I want to read but I want to do other things at the moments.

I'm heading back to the gym and getting my exercise on while listening to music, I'm trying to get myself healthy and motivated to eat healthy and exercise right all the while I will be heading back to school.

Upcoming SassyCat's Things 

I'm part of the Steel Lily Blog Tour by Megan Curd and I'm doing a lot of cover reveals or release blitzs or doing my book releases for the month of August. I'm trying to read some books but because I still have to write reviews I'm holding myself off.
In early September I will be part of the divided world tour organize by Xpresso Reads, I will be featuring a review of book one which I still have to read yet. Have I mention how its August already?

Have I brought any books lately?

Why yes! I brought one of my Mouse Watch books, Soul Screamers Volume 3 and it will be the first time I'll read Never To Sleep as well Replica by Jenna Black (I have it on my current reading but I haven't picked up the book since last week). Then I brought a book for my friend's birthday I can't say until she gets her gift because I'm sure she checks out my blog every once in awhile. 

So school starts soon, will I have time to blog?

Maybe not as much as I would like but I will do my best, I'm taking two courses that I know my brains will be working very hard on and reading those boring textbooks again. However I'm intrigue about my anatomy/ physiology class, part of our supplies is color pencils mmm? Maybe there's be some fun things but math? Not my strongest suit even though I do fine in some area. Most of my area of degree I've found math is almost never used.

I also might be working but that is not definite, finding a job is not an easy task and I hate interviews really . . . There a point for it but other part about interviews is that if you don't have the right qualification they won't bother.

Future Blogging

I'll drop in every now and then, I think if I plan according when to do posts, it will seem I'm blogging often but I have it schedule so wish me luck on my studies and I'll always make it to a point to have fun while in school. 

You can find me on Twitter, I'm sure I won't disappear from that because I love keeping tabs on everyone and interacting with everyone, so it wouldn't seem right if I disappear off of Twitter as well.

Blogger Times: Books Bargains

You know when you walk into a bookstore and you tend to walk pass all the bargain books? Well not today! I did actually spent a little more time looking at the bargains books

What goes through my thoughts?

• Well there won't be anything that I would want
• All the books I want has to purchase full price or order online
• Why even look? 
• They're dented or poor quality

Well today I decided to look at those bargain books and a few did draw my attention. So I quickly grab some that were on my less books to read but after looking some more I found something that would really be worth buying.

 

While many fans have praise Beautiful Creatures series, I yet still have to read them but I got Beautiful Chaos in hardcover for a bargain price. Even though I know it will take me months maybe years before I open that book but just to know that I got it in a bargain price and in hardcover was a good deal. 

Then I found Jenna Black's White Cat book in the bargains and decided I better get this now and not have my parent try to find it around November - December.  

Note I am one of the lucky few being born between Christmas and New Year's so I get double the gifts(not bragging I swear) 

I also picked up some book at regular prices as well, I desperately wanted to read Jenna Black's Replica book and a conversation that my dad and I had about the show Under the Dome.

We're big fan of the show and dad mention it was written by Stephen King and he read somewhere that a reader has tried to read the book but because it was super long he couldn't finish it and the interaction between characters were long ending.

So not that Dad said anything about me reading it but I found it in the store and thought I should get this and hopefully read it. Plus it would be my first Stephen King book ever both as a purchase and as a book to read.

Upcoming Blog Book Tours

Also while I'm still chatting on, I have a couple book tours coming up, next week July 31st I am sharing my review of Death Dealer by Ashley Robertson organized by IMR Blog Tour and then August (Wait did July really go that fast?) I am doing character interview for the Steel Lily Book Blog Tour on August 14th, Then I am posting another review for Steel Lily.

Also in August Dan Krokos's False Sight (False Memory #2) is being released, I am not participating in any tours for his book but I am exciting to share my review of his second book as well his first book False Memory.

Early September I will be posting a review of Disconnect (Book #1) for Divided World Tour organized by Xpresso Book Tours

I am hoping that I get to be chosen for Kismet Book Tours of Michelle Rowen's Countdown book, so cross my fingers.

Blogger Times: Where I've been

I haven't gone anywhere as you can tell with my numerous posts, however I am participating in a 15 Day Book Blogger Challenge. So that takes up a lot of my blogging time . . . writing and posting is a lot of work luckily this isn't hand-written otherwise I would have given up long ago because I am horrible with writing and my hand tends to cramp when I write for long period of times. Thanks God for Technology!

So I haven't been anywhere . . . but I'll update on what I've been reading

I am reading at least three books this month (well trying to) I just have a lot of reading to do and they are mostly on my Ipad.

Netgallery Books

I am staying away from Netgallery for the meantime because I have about 5 books that are from the wonderful site but either A) I haven't read the book or B) I haven't written the review. I am trying my best to get these books read.
Some books are released in August so I will put my focused on reading or reviewing perhaps both for theirs August release.
I am putting the ones that have already been released on hold until I actually have time to read them, but they will not be read without a review.

Book Blog Tours

On the other hands, I am doing two book blog tours in the month of August and September
One I am SO HAPPY to be a part of because I just love her as an Author and as a friend,
Steel Lily By Megan Curd released date is August 20th and I have to do either A)Author Review B)Guest Post or C)Characters Interview. But I still have to finished reading the darn book . . . it's really good but my eyes are not wanting to read as quickly as I would like them to.  So I have a lot to do in preparation of Steel Lily Book Blog Tour.

Then the other tour I'll be on is Divided Worlds Book Tour, I am only reviewing book #1 because I haven't read the series yet. This tour is for the third book that is being released, what nice about this tour is that they schedule people to read either Book 1, Book 2, or Book 3 and among other things.
I am still waiting for my review copy and my review won't be live until the 6th of September so I have a while to go but I will be starting school at the end of August.

Stacking the Shelf

I have gotten The Clockwork Princess By Cassandra Clare and False Memory by Dan Krokos just a few days ago. Because Dan's second book of his series is under my netgallery books I had to go and buy the first book and read that first before jumping into book two. The book itself sound interesting so I can't wait to read it.

Blogger Times: Meet the person behind the scene

Hey guys! This is one of my blog features "Blogger Times" this typically is about books in any way shape or form or should I say topics and words? Well I realizes that many of you may not know who I am!

I do this a lot especially in school, when that teacher/professors asked us to introduce ourselves and share three thing blah blah blah, but I always get nervous and I don't always say my name (such a dork) 

My name is Kat with a "K" you won't believe how many people thinks it a "C"! Here's why

1. My full name origin was a C from the old times, the K is the modern form

2. People automatically thinks C when I say my name 

3. If you have felines then you know C is for Cat

4. My full name can be written in different way, but I can't determine which was the letter was the original but since the 12 century both form were used in modern times.
 

How old am I? Well I can say I'm older than I look but that's is because I still have my baby face feature with a maturity look as well. I'm sure that will all change in time, your body gradually change due to changes in your life  and even for some people who had kids get a new curves. 

 

How long have I been blogging?

Well I've been blogging for at least two years but that was on a different blog and I was doing too many things. So when 2013 came around I really debated if I wanted to make the switch to blogger, many blogger made that change. So around mid-feb I've consulted with my friends on names that would suit me the best, one I love cats and two I have very much cat-like personality just like my name.  

So now you asked how you come up with the name?

I wanted the words "Sassy" and "Cat" now I fought back and forth with using K or C for the cat word but after all confusion I get outside of blogging with my name I went with C. Do I wish that it was a K? Maybe but I'm happy, satisfied and people can easily remember the name. Now Sassy is another thing, I do have sassy quality but Sassy comes from a character. Any ideas?
 

Sassy is from homeward bound, she is also a beautiful Himalayas cat with blue eyes while I wish I had a cat like that but I'm perfectly happy with my own 15 pounds Brown Tabby cat. Then I just added Books and Review and boom! There's my blog name

What else do I do beside blog and read?

I'm a avid bowler with an average of 155, now I'm not trying to make you feel bad! But I've been bowling since I was 6 or younger. My mom is also a bowler so I'm sure that where I get it from but I'm more structure with my bowling I should say, that only means I do things based on how my ball reacts on the lanes. Notes there's wood and Synthetic Lanes, then you got different oil patterns now unless you're a bowler in league, the oil you play on during the day and before leagues are used oil. 

Ok I can talk about bowling pretty much all day but let's move on shall we?

 

I love photography, I practically takes photos all the time! I would love to do photography as a side career but I think I would just want it as a hobby. Hopefully in the next month or so I will be doing my best friend engagement photos :-) this will give me an opportunity to really take photography to another level. 

 

 

I am a student at my local technical college, I've graduated in business management and earned an associate degree, I went to my university for a different program in mind but after the first semester I've learned that it wasn't the program for me. So I search for a new direction, and came across Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ultrasound/imaging) so I'm on my way to my new degree :-)

Lastly, I am a writer obviously you can tell but really I do write just like authors, some day I hope to become a author and share my imagination with you! Now I'm not going to say what I'm writing due to the possibilities of publishing my work. So wish me luck!

Hey Guys!

So I am back in my humble home and bed, I have posted a post earlier about my absent and now I have return back to blogging. Plus internet is available to me ;-)

First a little insight on my trip, if you weren't aware of where I went and what I did . . . I was in Baltimore, MD or also known as "Charm City" It was fun trip and one of the best part was the converted Power Plant into Barnes and Noble. It was HUGE!!! Well at least from my perpective.

Yes I did buy books, while I was looking for a specfic book it's turns out that the book is going into paperback. Also I've gotten books from my local store and from Armchair BEA prizes as well prizes from Fiktshun. So my Stacking the Shelves was huge!

Blogger Times: Not Hiding Out I Swear!

Heya my fellow readers and bloggers, I know I've been slightly absent from blogging and such . . . There are a few reasons to why I'm absent so I'll start with the biggest one

#1: My Laptop got infected, yes unfortunately that happens and it's been infected before in the past so I had to do a lot of my online stuff on the home desktop. Now surely you would think that shouldn't keep me from doing what I do on my laptop but reality is . . . it does!
Most places I go online since as blogger or email, heck even Twitter I have a automatic sign in just by typing the first letter of my user name then the rest is taken care of.

Another thing is everything that I do on my laptop, I try to keep it conceal from people around me I don't like snoopers or looking over my shoulder types so I did minimum stuff on the desktop or I tried to be discreet about it.
So that was my biggest issue was not having my laptop and I know how authors feels when something goes wrong.

#2: I had relatives over so I couldn't do much because I had to mesh with them.

#3: Have any of you serve Jury duty? Well I haven't so far but it is a two week term and I have no idea how long trials take in a day. So I have to do a constant check on my County Website to see if my number was picked. Honesty I don't find the point in doing this, I mean come on I'm 22 and I'm sure there are enough people older than me that can do Jury duty as well. But that's just my luck

#4: I am getting ready to travel to Baltimore, MD for a convention, so I've been researching on places to see while I'm there! Anyone in the Baltimore area? Please make a suggestion . . . but no guarantee that I'll be able to check it out.

I'm also taking my camera (The canon T3i Rebel, not the old camera that is also canon but it is a point and shoot style) Well my mom figure we need to find a case for the Rebel to travel with through security without it being too bulky so there was that task . . . finding a case.

Also I still have to PACK!!!! Trust me packing a 5 days worth of clothes and items is tough. Mom and I have a lot to do before we take off and we are going to have a very tight schedule.

#5: Have I been reading? Yes and No, I've done some reading in a short time slot but then I'm working on the reviews for those books. I think I have become more picky on how I write the review and making sure that it is helpful to my readers. But also helping out the authors getting some time in the spotlight. So here's some books I've read/working on review

• 1) The Blood Code by Misty Evans (The review is schedule to be posted on the day of its released)
• 2)Into the Fire Review and Guest Post (The review is finished I'll probably post it on the same day as my guest post with Amanda next week June 17th)
• 3) I've just finished reading Obisidian by Jennifer L Armentrout and that review still has to be written but again I'd just finished it.
• 4) Werewolves Be Damned was already post this week so I've check that off my list (Not that I use a check list)
• 5) I gotten a request to review a book (this is my first author request to review their book so I'm excitied to read it) Its a reissued book called "The World Is Your Litter Box: Deluxe Edition: A How-To Manual for Cats" by Steve Fisher and Quasi the cat

So I'm not trying to be in a cave or hiding out but since things requried a face to face than going online, I must go pay attention to that then come back to the internet. So be sure to check out my guest post with Amanda Usen and review of Into the Fire on June 17th

I was also at the Red Ballon Bookshop for Jeri Smith-Ready event, she talks about how media has changed between the authors and readers. Twitter, tumblr, FaceBook, Ects are all an important technology media. The dynamic between authors and readers has changed so much in the past few years due to the improvment of technology.

I also told Jeri that I haven't read her books yet, one of my many reader problems but she hoped that I'll enjoy her books. She signed each of my copies of her Shade Series, and she had Shine Booksmarks.

Andrea Cremer and David Levithan were are Red Balloon a few days before and while I was on the hunt for Invisibility at Barnes and Noble I couldn't find it. But I gain something more out of my purchase at Red Balloon, they were nice enough to sign books as "Signed Copy". I can't pass up any signed books.

Blogger Times

I apologizes for not blogging so much these past few weeks, I have been busy in my realtiy world.  Book world is so much better than reality, here's a few reasons why

1. It's my relaxing time
2. I can visit my book boyfriend(s)
3. Their world seems better than mine
4. Bloggers always have something to giveaway and give the best reviews
5. Too many books had come out that I'm barely keeping track

So here's some things in my Blogger Times,

• I have been given a chance to review a book called The Willows: Haven by Hope Collier, I'm still reading it and I'm loving every mintue of it!
• I have been waiting for my Barry Lyga's signed copies of "I Hunt Killers" and the sequel "Game"
• I purchase two discounted hardcover books, one by Kelley Armstrong and the other by Kathy Reichs and Brendan Reichs
• I haven't open Fragments since last week because I still have three book to still review but I'm reading The Willows: Haven because Hope offered her book to me to be read and give a review.
