Book Review: Supremacy

 Supremacy (Supremacy, #1)

Supremacy (Supremacy #1) by Christin Lee

Kate Parker, is a 17 year old senior living in Texas. She's on the swim team, has two incredible best friends, and a passion for saving animals. She falls hard when she meets a mysterious and fascinating guy named Lucas. He has a sexy accent and a killer smile. However, she sees unexplained pain and anger in his dark brown eyes. He claims he’s a foreign exchange student from Spain who is attending the local University—Kate knows there’s more to his story than that. She works hard to discover who he is—what he is.

Supremacy was an author review request, it was also her first book release as well.

Supremacy is set up where there are two very different worlds and one young girl that may help save both of those worlds before it's too late.

While it took awhile for the book to reach it's point about what the book is really about, but I enjoyed the character interactions. So even though it took awhile, I think the character's stories took care of that big gap.

Lucas has an interesting storyline arc, but it clear that he fell over hard with Kate. However it changed towards the end of the book because of how it was left off. It made me wonder what are his true purposes. Although I know and can tell that he loves and cares for Kate, but will duty take place over love?

Kate is a huge animal lover, she is determine to save any animals from danger or from a harsh world. In the beginning of the book, she's trying to rescue a stray dog that was starving and scared. Major prompts on creating a character that is a animal lover, I don't often see that. There's also something about Kate that makes her special to the book, but that hadn't been clarified to what it is.

I enjoy most of the secondary characters, for them you could tell where they belong and where they fit in the story. Even the characters from Lucas's world were a mixtures of daydreamers and then there were ones that wanted to keep everything the same.

I give this 3.8 Cat Paws, so overall this book has it's potentials, there's parts of the book that need to be strengthen which could occur in the next book.

The Lost Amulet Chronicles: Interview with Katie Lynn Johnson

It's been awhile since I've had an author interview, thankfully I could reach out to one that had asked me to review her books.

So first an introductory about Katie,

Katie Lynn Johnson was an Air Force brat growing up, and has lived in California, Germany, New Mexico, Texas, and Idaho. In college she studied fine art and marketing, all the while taking far more English classes than were necessary for her degree. By day she works as a writer, copyeditor, and graphic designer for a magazine publisher, and by night she writes novels just for kicks. Katie lives in Boise, Idaho with her husband and two children.

Upcoming Books

Amulet of Elusion (The Lost Amulet Chronicles, #1)Amulet of Power (The Lost Amulet Chronicles, #2)

Where did you get your ideas for The Lost Amulet Chronicles?
I first came up with the basic concept of the story in junior high school (yeah, it was that long ago), so, unsurprisingly, a lot of my first ideas came from Disney movies like Aladdin and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
I'm there right now, working on a WIP that actually came off an idea I had in High School but more mature, modern and Urban Fantasy. I'm still working on it but the changes and new ideas I have went like a forest fire! I'm hoping this will be the one to make it out there somewhere :-)

Was there anything that inspired you to write The Lost Amulet Chronicles? Places, Music, etc.
Definitely! When I was young, I visited a city in Germany called Rothenburg. It was hundreds of years old, with a lot of cobblestone and a wall surrounding the entire city--this is where I came up with the idea for Alvair. San Lucero, on the other hand, is based on San Juan, Puerto Rico. I've never been there but I saw a documentary on the Travel Channel and fell in love with it. A couple of songs that inspired the story are Lie to Me by 12 Stones and The Fake Sound of Progress by Lostprophets.

Music is always a big influence to me when writing, it's almost impossible to write without it! I would love to visit foreign countries someday!

In Amulet of Power, you had Caleb and Alexa loses their memory did you plan that to bring in a greater threat such as Dante for a twist?
This was actually one of my first ideas for the series--that at some point Alexa would be bound by a spell and be working for Queen Jada. Dante was one of my first ideas, too. I liked the idea of an attractive bad guy who tries to steal Alexa away from Caleb.

Who doens't like an attractive bad boy?
Dante seemed nice in the beginning but then something clicked inside his head when Alexa started granting him powers. Was he as evil as he is before obtaining that power?
Yes and no. Dante knew all along that he wanted to gain Alexa's trust so that she would grant him power. What he didn't expect is that he would genuinely fall in love with her. He also did not anticipate that the first taste of real power would make him hungrier for more.

Mmm . . . now I really can't wait to see what happen in book three
Also the sword fight between Alexa and Caleb? My mind was just spinning, praying and hoping that it wouldn't end horribly. That was really scary and I'm sure it was for Caleb.
This was also an early idea I had. I always liked the twist in stories where good guys turn bad and unintentionally try to hurt people they care about (e.g. when Indiana Jones was under a spell in Temple of Doom).

I love Indiana Jones :-)

How many more books will you write for The Lost Amulet Chronicles?
There are three books in The Lost Amulet Chronicles series.

When is the next one scheduled to come out?
Book Three, Amulet of Destiny, is scheduled to be released in June 2014.

Ooh :-) June is going to be a busy month for me, attending my first ever big book blogger/author event in Nashville UTopYA Con in case you're wondering. So I might not have time in June to read your book, but we'll see :-)

Thanks Katie for answering my questions! And I'll take up on some of your suggestions of Fantasy books :-)

Book Review: Amulet of Power

Amulet of Power (The Lost Amulet Chronicles #2) by Katie Lynn Johnson

Amulet of Power (The Lost Amulet Chronicles, #2)Forgotten Memories. Dark Enchantments.
And a Long-Lost Source of Unimaginable Power.

Keeping her end of a desperate bargain to save her island home from destruction, Alexa Costa finds herself in the unlikely employ of Queen Jada. Bound by a powerful spell, she swears allegiance to the kingdom of Alvair and remembers nothing of her romance with Caleb. Now she must adjust to life within the castle, where her personal opinion means nothing, her skills are constantly put to the test, and her private thoughts are public knowledge.

Rumors abound and secrecy reigns in Queen Jada’s inner circle, the members of which include the mysterious Prince Dante, the self-obsessed Princess Tiana, and the valiant Captain Whitman of the Alvairan Army. It's only a matter of time until Alexa suspects treachery, but with enemies waiting outside--and inside--the castle walls, will regaining her memory be enough?

Paperback, 1, 376 pages

Published June 2013 by Katie Lynn Johnson

As again this was through an request by the author, Katie offered me to read both of her books and after I had read the first book I wanted to read (naturally) the next book. A little email chat and boom! Number two is loaded on my kindle app.

Review
Where we left off in the end of Amulet of Elusion, we thought Alexa and her friends gain victory however that doesn't seem like the case when Amulet of Power comes in. Alexa is now living in the Castle of Alvair, as the Queen's apprentice.

Because of what Alexa is as an interrupter, she can wield and grant powers of the amulets, Queen Jada finds her to be useful on her side. Then we find Caleb in Alvair at Queen Jada's troop training camp, he has no memories of his life before joining Alvair's troops.

Queen Jada's plan of actions is to use Alexa for her own will of powers, and giving Alexa very little in return. Alexa had rarely questioned anything, but she begins to question her heart and the side that she's on.

Caleb doesn't believe in the powers, Queen Jada possess or what she's willing to give to her warrior but for Caleb he knows there's something about Alexa only he can pinpoint what it is

Dark forces are stirring in Alvair and the change in power is growing, will Alexa and Caleb figure out what it is that's buried so deep inside them?

Amulet of Power really explore new depths of Alvair, simply put I finished the book in two-three days max. Sometimes you can only suppress memories but never erased them for good and you can't fight true love. I give this five Cat's Tails UP, it was a MERROOWW awesome book.

Meow . . . Meow . . . Meow
Every moment about this book was "What is going on?" Both Alexa and Caleb don't recognize each other, they both had memories hidden from them which didn't make any sense to me but it turns out the WICKED EVIL GREEDY QUEEN JADA was behind all of it.

We meet a couple new people in this books, some are nice while others are not. Due to Queen Jada's husband death the next heir to the throne is her nephew Dante.

Dante or should I say Prince Dante? From the start I knew something was up with him but I couldn't fathomed why Alexa would even be drawn to him but given to her situation living only inside the castle and not allowing to venture off I'll give her a pass.

But Dante was betrothed to someone else until he asked his Aunt Queen Jada to turn the table where he chose his own bride and what do you know, he picked Alexa. But he only chose her because of what she can give him . . . POWER.

Caleb! while I'm glad he's building up strength and fighting capability, I was sad that he was torn away from Alexa but cheering inside when Queen Jada unmistakeably made him Alexa's personal guard. After that things starts heated back up for them! However Dante warns Caleb and will do what he want from Alexa.

After One long moment between Alexa and Caleb, he is struck by powerful memories, the very memories that were hidden from him and hidden from Alexa. Struggling to gain back Alexa, it's up to Alexa to follow her heart.

Another battle erupts at Castle Alvair and a new leader rises, Caleb and Alexa hides deep into the seas and into Caleb's family home for a short period as for their next mission is to find Ivy. They also learn in Ivy's letter and her plan to regain hope for the kingdom and restore balance.

Book Review: Amulet of Elusion

Amulet of Elusion (The Lost Amulet Chronicles #1) by Katie Lynn Johnson

Amulet of Elusion (The Lost Amulet Chronicles, #1)Alexa Costa has a life-altering secret…only she doesn’t know it yet.

Confined by law to the kingdom of Alvair until the age of eighteen, Alexa has lived a sheltered existence under the watchful eye of her sword-wielding guardian, Ivy. Her love interest, Caleb Whitman, is exactly the opposite. A merchant sailor and seeker of rare artifacts, Caleb has lived a life of adventure in nearby San Lucero, the long-time rival of Alvair.

After her eighteenth birthday, Alexa’s quiet existence becomes tumultuous, and she realizes she does not need to seek to find adventure. Myths become real, legend becomes fact, and Alexa discovers that she possesses rare abilities which make her a target for both sides in a centuries-old struggle for power. She must use every resource available to her—including her talents with the supernatural Amulets— to help her friends, rekindle her romance with Caleb, and save her island home from destruction.

It's been awhile since I gotten an author request, now I felt terrible that I kept pushing it off but I had good reasons the simple answer was SCHOOL. Yep I was completely overwhelm and I really couldn't do any reading. But as a responsible blogger I email the author telling her that I'm school and I haven't had the time to read and she was very understanding. I had the time to start reading it after I was done with school and just the other night I finished the book then emailed the author telling her that I was done reading her book and was interested in reading book 2.

Review
Alexa Costa just thought that she was just a regular girl, a civilian living among the clock tower district and being raised by her guardian IVY. After the death of her parents and sister, Alexa was hidden to be protected from the very people that killed her family.

Now she is at age of 18 where she can choose to leave her sheltered life, but IVY warned Alexa of outsiders.

But soon Alexa starts finding out truth about her family death and why it happen, all according to a book that contains secrets of the kingdom, legends and myths. It even reveals Alexa's heritage and that she is an Interpreter.

Now everything about the kingdom will change, but is it for better or worst?

Now I give this book a four and a half Cat's Tails up, this was a different type of treats for me but I surely enjoyed it. I've also asked for a chance to review her second book and I finished it in 3 days! So be sure to look out for Amulet of Power book 2 review.

Meow . . . Meow . . . Meow
Admittedly I don't think I've read a fantasy, made-up world kingdom book but now I have with Katie's book. Her book is about a young girl Alexa, unaware of what or who she really is along with her family.

Ivy her guardian have always told Alexa to never trust strangers or outsiders, but Alexa is drawn to an outsider, a delivery boy name Caleb. Ivy keeps close tabs on her and Caleb although Ivy doesn't explain to Alexa why she should be wary about people but when a book reveals secrets of the kingdom and about Alexa's parents, Alexa's life becomes in danger.

Now hiding or trying to hide, Alexa doesn't know what to do except hide but she also want to help the people that are suffering from the kingdom's power but what can Alexa do?

Ivy starts explaining about amulets that possess and grant certain powers that only Alexa can provide or grant to people with the right incantations. But there's a lot more about the amulets than what Ivy is letting on but the reality is that the king and queen are exasperating seeking Alexa.

The love between Caleb and Alexa to me seems like they are destined to be soulmates, although Caleb made some bad decision in the beginnings but he quickly corrected his wrong and save the girl he loves. Caleb would fight to the death with Alexa and would die for her.

Now getting married sure surprise me but maybe when you know you found the one you can't deny it.

The battle against the king and queen, you know that can never end well as it seems Alexa and Caleb were able to have a slight victory.

Book Spotlight: Destination Wedding

Hello everyone, I've gotten an usual email from an author who had asked me to do a spotlight of her book "Destination Wedding" that was recently chosen on Amazon big deal promotion. No she didn't asked for a review request since I am not taking any requests due to my number of reads I have to do before I start school. Plus I'm part of a couple blog tours so as you can see I'm pretty busy.

And I could not think of a feature for this type of post but "Book Spotlight" will do untill I get more thoughts about this type of feature and maybe more authors will come out to reach me if their books made it to Amazon Big Deal Promotion.

I was more than happy to help out Robyn to promote her book, its sounds really interesting with Twins brother, and a very confused wedding planner who believe the one she was sitting with and kissed was the same person however she learned its her client. But hint hint, it was the twin. I wonder if that twin will admit that it was him or will the lies keep on building?

Destination Wedding – On Sale Now at Amazon for $0.99!!

This will only be available until the 4th of August so hurry and get it now!

What happens in the air doesn’t stay up there. Once on tropical land, Kate believes that the handsome stranger who gave her the best kiss of her life is now her new client, Drew Cannon, fiancé to the beautiful and wealthy Lauren Kincaid. Destination Wedding
{Chapter One}

"I do. I do." Wedding planner Kate Ashby quietly repeated her calming mantra. Paralyzed in her window seat, she stared at the illuminated fasten seatbelt sign while her hands gripped the metal buckle strap.

They had to be close to cruising altitude. Soon, she'd be able to request a strong drink to knock her out for the duration of this bumpy flight.

She sat still, trying to ignore the terror pulsating through her. Why hadn't she bought sleeping pills before boarding a twelve-hour flight from New York City to Hawaii? Now, that would have been the smart thing to do.

Glancing out the tiny passenger window, she clutched her gold "K" necklace. It was completely irrational to be terrified and she realized the odds of her and her fellow passengers landing safely in Honolulu were more than in her favor. Still, this was her first time flying such a long duration. Departing Manhattan this evening in turbulent thunderstorms had shot her nerves. She was grateful that her boss had sprung for a first class ticket for the long flight.

A loud rattle caused her to grab hold to her armrests. "What was that?" She turned to the stranger sitting next to her. He had short blondish brown hair and was wearing a blue blazer. His face had a nice tan. She had failed to realize that her row mate was incredibly handsome. Usually the person sitting next to her was a grandparent or couldn't speak English. Perhaps he could help her ease her nerves?

"Um ... I think it's the drink cart. Would you like something?" He folded his
Wall Street Journal.

Sexy and smart.

"I'll take a tequila and tonic," he said to the flight attendant.

And likes his drinks strong. This could be fun.

Again I have to thanks Nikki for lending out her books to me in return my honest review. Sun Poisoned is book #2 of the Sunshine series, Sophie and Myles are back!

Review
Sophie nnd Myles are back and living it large in New York, the band is doing great . . . Life is good. Myles still can't feel what Sophie feeling anymore but that doesn't prevent him from getting close to her and her being close to him.
What do you do if someone you trust have been lying to you and for Sophie a tragic event happens that leaves her almost defeneless and in danger.
Was the Michael threat over? Or is there a greater threat beyond Sophie and Myles control?

I give this 4.5 cat's tails up, I really like the intensity of the climax of the story and that ending was just WHEW! and AW MAN! I have to wait until the next book.

Ramble
Yes I know my review is slightly short, but it was the best way I could do without revealing spoilers in the review. My ramble is for the spoil aspect. So onwards I ramble on, first off I'm glad that Sophie took the leap to go to New York, after what happen to her that previously winter I wasn't sure if even

Myles or the band could convince her. But now in New York life couldn't be any more perfect, except Sophie stills has a hard time adjusting to herself with Myles.

Myles does what he can to make Sophie as comfortable as possible and taking things slow but the memories still haunts Sophie no matter what she does to not think about it. Myles give Sophie the control since all she's ever know was being under controlled.

Ava and Evan part of Myles's past and good friends, but when Ava's sudden collapse in Sophie's apartment Myles has to explain to her about Ava's situation. Michael's blood, yes Michael is back in the picture (sort of) his blood is infected to others both vampires and humans. And Myles leaves out an important detail from Sophie and then Sophie becomes mad until a family thing happen.

The family tragic: I really hates these tragic stories especially when you're so drawn to those character and boom the author cut him out of the story.

And Cue the ending! I was blown away and Michael wastes no time trying to end Sophie's life and what better way to do so by getting her bitten by vampires that are infected with his blood? The pain and suffering Sophie went through and Jade came into the realization that without Myles's help Sophie will not survive.

Now Nikki did leave it open-ending, so we're left wondering if what Myles did will help her and how will Sophie's life change now?

Sunshine Review

Sunshine (Sunshine #1) by Nikki Rae

Sunshine (Sunshine, #1)18 year old Sophie Jean is pretty good at acting normal. Sure, she’s not exactly happy, but happiness is nothing compared to being like everyone else. She can pretend she’s not allergic to the sun. She can hide what her ex-boyfriend did to her. She can cover up the scars she’s made for herself. Ignore anything. Forget anything. Then Myles enters her life, and he has more than a few secrets of his own. When accident after accident keeps happening to Sophie, she can’t help noticing that he’s everywhere. That he knows too much. That she’s remembering too much.

It’s one thing covering up her own dark past, but does she really need to worry about people finding out just how much Myles likes her? Or that despite how much she doesn’t want to repeat past mistakes, she kind of likes him back? Not to mention the fact that she now has to conceal that Myles drinks blood-that he says he’s about four hundred years old.

She almost forgot about that part.

But Sophie has no plans to ruin the normal life she has created for herself. She can deal with this little glitch, no problem. Even if word has gotten around to the wrong vampire about Sophie and Myles, even if she’s putting the few people she loves at risk. Suddenly, those who were monsters before are just people, and the monsters? They’re real. Now being a normal human being is the least of her problems. Now she has to stay alive

So just yesterday I had another author request to review his/her book, and last night I finished her book. Book Number One just to clarify, she had asked me to review her second book that had recently just come out but I needed book one before I could read number two. I just might start number two later tonight.

Review
Sophie Jean lives her life in the dark, not by dark memories of her past but she can only really be in the dark. Having a freakish allergy to any type of sunshine makes life almost tough for Sophie, at home and at school. Then Myles Lott comes.
Myles Lott isn't your typically guy teenager, he's much more and that just makes him even more drawn to Sophie. He knows Sophie like to hide but he wants to help her in any way possible.
Opening old wounds and facing old memories is something Sophie would avoid at all costs, but for Myles he see how much pain she in and how she live her life in fear.
Can Myles save Sophie from herself and can he protect her from his world that he may have just brought Sophie into?
When an very old vampire wants to make sure that Sophie doesn't get too involved with Myles or his world, he'll do just about anything to take Sophie out of the picture.

I give this 5 Cat Tails, I really love the book and was even more drawn to the storyline for Sophie and how Myles is truly someone that makes her happy, her other half as some would call it.

Ramble
First off this was my first YA/NA mix, also I've been dying to read NA books and here it is! Sunshine focused on young adults getting to the end of high school and entering the adult world.

Sophie been through a lot in her life, stuff that should have never happen to her and having a pain the butt mom who will stop at nothing to get her "freak show" of a daughter to be finally normal.

Thankfully Sophie has two greatest friends in the world and her brother Jace for moral support, even from her step dad and two sisters.

So how does Myles come into the picture? Well he's the new kid and both Boo and Trei instantly makes friends with him while Sophie is trying to remain in the dark . . . unnoticed. Yeah like that was going to work. Soon Sophie sees that Myles isn't all as he seems but he rather try to keep it a secret for as long as he can.

Myles and Sophie finally start trusting each other, even when Sophie won't tell her biggest secrets to Myles but Myles is the same way, only telling her what she can understand and possibly accept the facts.

Really I love Myles and Sophie together, I love all the things Myles does for Sophie even when she doesn't want it but something she may not know what best for her. Out of all the dates Myles take her on, the beach one was definitely my fav even when that date goes wrong. Then my other fav part was the white roses that Myles was going to give her at the dance before a certain someone appears.

That certain someone was the face of Sophie's horrible past but was entirely someone else to Myles. Apparently there's an very very old vampire roaming around and is said to be one of the worst vampire around.

Oh did I mention that Myles is a vampire? OOPS I guess I wanted to keep that as much lip-sealed but now I have to mention it because of the big bad vampire Michael. Now Michael will do just about anything to scare Sophie away from Myles but that only made their bond closer and that makes Michael even more determine that she has to die one way or another.

So now Sophie, Myles and two of Myles friends must do what they can to protect Sophie but can Myles protect her and save her before it's too late?
I would recommend this book to all new readers of NA only because this doesn't  have that mature content like some are. So thanks Nikki for lending me out your book, and I can't wait to read book two!
