UtopYA Con: Book Hauls

I kept putting this off and off and off, but I know that I have to share what books I got from my UtopYA Con.

I got a scrapbook for all the bookmarks, postcards, swags items . . . Mom got ahead of me and I was not ready to start the scrapbook so she went ahead and started. After telling her to stop one final time she did stop although I think she want to do more the next day.

I'm a creative person don't get me wrong but I wasn't in the mood for it and I was dealing with a minor headache that seems to not go away (it's gone now!)

Anyways my book haul, I took with me total of 17 books and books that was books I gotten at UtopYA CON . . . 43 books. So I came home with exactly 60 books in three different bags. It could have been worst . . . like really worst but I stayed with my budget that I saved and still return home with money left over (shocking)

Here's the books that I brought with me

Yes you saw that! There is 8 Jennifer L Armentrout books, while JLA had flight problems these pretties were not signed. Next on the very bottom is Jessica Sorensen who I thought was going to be there I had heard something or maybe I heard it wrong. Anyways I still end up getting a good deal out of buying the first two books of The Secret seriesfeaturing Ella and Micha.

Next we have Crewel which I found awhile back and Gennifer was one of the keynote speakers at UtopYA, I haven't read her books or really heard of her (blogger/reader problem) but I still picked it up anyways. Next is Bridger by Megan Curd who I've know for years through facebook and twitter (she's is awesome!) well in the mist of packing I found that Bridger was unsigned although I've have had it for a couple years but she was gladly to sign it anyways for me :-)
Rachel Harris! I actually met Rachel Harris who is all fun and flirty girly, I got the two My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century for a great price as well.
Next Syliva Day the (better) romance novelist, the one that actually gain my interest to read her books when Fifty Shades of Gray was popular. But I wasn't ready to buy her books yet until some made their way to the discounts sections so mom and I snagged them.
It was clear to me that Target was only place that I was going to get a Tiffany King book, so that is what I did and plus I'm a target member so bonus!

Next it's the books that I preordered, I found that preordering books were a guarantee that you'll get the books you want and if there were authors that didn't set up a preorder that I wanted I crossed my fingers and I did get some that were on my list but not preordered.
So what were the books?
Fly House by Misty Provencher
21 days by Bethany Lopez
8 weeks by Bethany Lopez
Cold Blood by Heather Hildenbrand
Blood Bond by Heather Hildenbrand
Prince of Wolves by Quinn Loftis
Blood Rites by Quinn Loftis
Meant for Her by Raine Thomas
For Everly by Raine Thomas
Reap by Casey Bond
Winter Shadows by Casey Bond
Devil Creek by Casey Bond
The Space Between by Kristie Cook
The Space Beyond by Kristie Cook
I, Zombies by Jo Michaels

The books that I blame my mom for buying and drawing me into it, this one is going to be a long list of names and books.

Cross-Country Christmas by Tiffany King
Reborn by C.C. Hunter
Take me to your Reader Anthology by various author

Books that were in our bags . . . for a Blogger bag and UtopYA bags
A Secret Life by Rachael Brownell
(2) Angel Burn by L.A Weatherley

And last but not less, is two Journals from the fabulous Mae I Design photographer Regina Wamba, she has more journals that just went live on amazon. You can't say no to journals, I mean where do you think it all started?

So yes I gain 43 NEW books onto my shelf, although not ONE book have been place on my shelf, they still remains in the bags in the living room. So I guess I'm still hungover from UtopYA Con and I've been really busy helping my friend plan her wedding.

Book Review: Shade

Shade (Shade #1) By Jeri Smith-Ready

Shade (Shade, #1)Best. Birthday. Ever. At least, it was supposed to be. With Logan's band playing a critical gig and Aura's plans for an intimate after-party, Aura knows it will be the most memorable night of her boyfriend's life. She never thought it would be his last.

Logan's sudden death leaves Aura devastated. He's gone.

Well, sort of.

Like everyone born after the Shift, Aura can see and hear ghosts. This mysterious ability has always been annoying, and Aura had wanted nothing more than to figure out why the Shift happened so she can undo it. But not with Logan's violet-hued spirit still hanging around. Because dead Logan is almost as real as ever. Almost.

It doesn't help that Aura's new friend Zachary is so understanding--and so very alive. His support means more to Aura than she cares to admit.

As Aura's relationships with the dead and the living grow ever complicated, so do her feelings for Logan and Zachary. Each holds a piece of Aura's heart...and clues to the secret of the Shift.

Paperback, 309 pages
Published (first published May 4th 2010)

Review
Aura has a gift but are times that she's sees it as a curse, she was born one minutes after the SHIFT and now because of that she can communicates with ghosts whether she wants to or not.

But when her rock star boyfriend dies, she thought it was the end of the world until she sees his ghost, now she looks at this like a second chance with him but how can she be with him if he's dead?

Then comes along Zachary, Aura's research partner and suddenly she might have a chance of a normal life until it's reveal that they share the same birthdays but Zachary was born one minutes before the Shift.

Will Aura be able to move on with her life after the passing of Logan or will she still hold on to Logan for as long he's around?

Shade gave me a fresh new read for once where it's not all paranormal or supernatural(s) it's a simple of having the ability to see ghosts or not to see ghosts. I'm giving this Four and a half Cat's Tails UP for the start of a new book series to read.

MEOW . . . MEOW . . . MEOW
I'm glad I set a goal for what books I should be reading, it helps get my TBR pile shorter (HA! In my dreams) that list will never stop growing but I can now finally say I'm reading the Shade series by Jeri Smith-Ready.

Aura seems like your average girl, she has a rock star boyfriend but she also can communicate with ghosts not that she's wants to anyways. But on the night of her boyfriend Logan's concert, he just agreed to a record label but then no one expected him to do the unthinkable.

Logan's death stunned everyone and now Logan's is back as a ghost, now his family and Aura are trying to help him pass on before he becomes a Shade.

While Aura works on her research project with Zachary the new guy at school with a sexy accent, he starts becoming friends with her but soon after learning about what Aura can do, he wants to know more and to share more with her.

Aura grows into Zachary as well but she struggle with trying to move on with Logan still hanging around and she's a little confused with what she wants. She wants to be with Zach because he's here and real and not dead but she want Logan as well she wanted that one night with him before everything turns upside down and he's dead.

What I thought about Logan was the cliche type, rock star . . . fame . . . drugs . . . no goal in life and I hated that from the start but when Logan becomes a ghost, he's different. Different for himself, his family and Aura, he regret doing what he's done but he can't undo the mistake he's made.

His parents and siblings wants him to passed on as peacefully as he can but his little last show of the night on earth as a ghost turns to be something horrid and worrisome for the family when he became a Shade and disappeared.

What I thought about Zachary, how can you not like an accent? he's also smart in his own way and completely shy around Aura. When he finds out that he and Aura share the same birthday, he also shares that he can ward off ghosts around him by wearing anything red or at least that how I understood it.

Their birthday date was pretty awesome because just last summer I was in Baltimore and it took me away to figure out that the series was taken place in Baltimore. So the historic ships? yep I've been there but what's interesting is that DMP was looking for them at the time.

The scene I like the most was when Aura and Zach were hiding from the DMP on one of the historic ships and that's where they share their first kiss. But also that is when Zach's dad comes in and interrupt them, talk about AWKWARD!!!

I want to share some photos I took while in Baltimore and perhaps you'll see some of the aspects from the book :-)

Blogger Times: Stacking My Shelves

I know today has been a good day to me . . . I added more books to my shelves and it was a large pile.

While I'm still waiting on a few books that I've won/or ordered, I can't show pictures yet but I'm happy to share my new shiny cat toys.

After reading a post by Danny of Bewitched Bookworms where she talks about the Morganville Vampires series by Rachel Caine.
http://bewitchedbookworms.com/2013/06/series-feature-the-morganville-vampires-by-rachel-caine-fall-of-night-14.html

Danny gave some very high points on why we should read the Morganville Vampire series, as for me I was staying away from it because I wanted to read more about other supernatural creatures like Werewolves or people with supernatural abilities. So for the longest time I've choose to not buy any vampire books . . . the only book that counts is The Mortal Instrument: City of Lost Souls, and a few others that had tie-in with vampires.

Embedded image permalinkMy bookstore actually carries the volumes of the Morganville Vampires and two were in the clearance (overstock/publishers lower price) But then my amazing mom found Ghost Town in Pp and HC in clearance as well. But here's the rub . . . the HC was cheaper than the PP, Say What?

I took it as the publishing company had sold HC first then within 3 month period went straight to Pp.

Now you see two are not Rachel Caine's books but in fact Kelley Armstrong's Otherworld series, her first works of books. I had doubts that my store would actually carry her first book "Bitten" but I was in awed to find out that Plume had it reformatted with new covers and I was just dosed with catnip that I could find it. So I will be keeping my eyes out for the next couple books of the Otherworld series by Kelley.

Now the question remains, WHEN WILL I EVER HAVE THE TIME TO READ THEM?
good question . . . christmas break? school break? Summer break? Night read? Gym read? I have no clue, I really should really create a post of my goal for 2014 reads because I sort of have one just not written down on paper (its all in my head)

So I'm off to finish another book and reviews (which I've fallen greatly behind)

Steel Lily Blog Tour + Characters Interview

It's time! For all that have fallen in love with Megan's new book "Steel Lily" we bloggers that are on tour will be asking characters interviews, author interviews, guest posts, excerpts, and Reviews. So be sure to stop at every tour stops!

Today we are stopping at my blog SassyCat's Books Review, I've been a fan of Megan for awhile now, I also love her for her insane music scenes teasers and being a book lover as well. So I've asked to host a character interview, so we'll get to meet Avery Pike and Jaxon Pierce.

But first what is Steel Lily? Look below and read the book description along with a few other things. . . Then we can move on to the interview

Steel Lily (Periodic series) By Megan Curd

Steel Lily (The Periodic Series, #1)AVERY PIKE is a commodity. No, more than a commodity. Her existence is guarded at all costs.

She’s a water Elementalist, the strongest of her dwindling kind. She creates steam to provide energy to fuel Dome Four: the only thing standing between humanity and an earth ravaged by World War III. No steam, no Dome. No Dome, no life.

Or so she thinks.

That is, until a mysterious man offers her a way out of having to donate steam. A way to escape the corrupt government of Dome Four. While the offer seems too good to be true, Avery is intrigued.

But when she arrives to her new home, she realizes the grass isn’t any less dead on this side of the fence. Instead, the lies are just hidden better.

…Which means digging deeper.

When Avery enlists the help of her friends to uncover the truth, she learns that while some secrets are better left concealed, humankind was never meant to live in a cage. And when you can control the most sought after resource, you can learn to control anything…including the fate of your world.

Now for an Excerpt of Steel Lily!

I’d never seen anyone like him in Dome Four. His jawbone was strong, his cheekbones set high. His nose was regal and straight and when my gaze reached his eyes, my breath caught. Stormy blue-grey eyes that reminded me of shale returned my gaze with seemingly genuine curiosity, if not a bit of humor. Strips of colored fabric were woven into his dreadlocked hair, giving it a wildly unique appearance that suited him. His smug expression made me realize he was enjoying this.
“Are you finished checking me out? If you’re not, that’s okay; I allow every new woman I meet a free five-minute gawking period. After that, it’ll cost you.”
Blood rushed to my face. I tore my eyes from his magnetic gaze and watched as he took a worn leather strap off his wrist. He pulled back his dreadlocks–deep brown streaked with blonde–into the strap. His devilish grin pulled his eyes tight at the corners. He was trouble incarnate. Trouble I may very well want to get into, given the right circumstances.
“You’re at five minutes and thirty seconds now,” he said in a purr as he leaned in toward me. I felt his breath against my cheek, and my heart raced. “I’m going to start taking payment, and I choose how that payment is issued.”
Before I could respond, Alice stirred groggily beside me. She rubbed her eyes as she sat up. “Where are we?”
“Good question,” piped Jaxon. “One that your friend here failed to ask, but it could have been because I rendered her speechless with my good looks.”
Alice moved to get a better look at him, but he emphatically covered his face, as though he were a vampire trying to block the sun. “Don’t look at me!” he cried, then grinned as he winked at me. “I don’t want to make two ladies swoon in such a short period of time. How would I entertain myself tonight?”
“You’re not that handsome,” I argued mulishly.
“There’s drool on your chin. Either you’re physically unable to keep your mouth shut, or I caused you to forget how. Since when I found you, you were drool free, I’m going with the assumption that it was me.” He fished in his pocket and offered me a piece of white silk. “Here, a handkerchief for your trouble.”

Totally to die for right?!

Now onto the interview!

Megan, thanks for lending out Avery and Jaxon for the day and visiting my blog. I hope you
don't mind if I ask them some serious questions.

So Jaxon and Avery, please have a seat and excuse the cat hair

on the couch, someone wanted to be brushed and it shedding
season again. Flying Hairballs!

Avery - You called Jaxon, Jax and you kissed him how was it?
::smiles:: Well, he’s not awful, by any means.
Jaxon: Wasn’t awful? Are you kidding me? Let me put it to you straight, Kat. I’m amazing
Avery: ::shakes head and leans in:: He’s good, but I think we need to practice.
Jaxon: They say practice makes perfect. I mean, I think I have that kissing thing down, but Avery
could use some practice. ::dodges Avery’s punch::

Avery - How are you doing controlling the elements, I know each time you try using the
elements you seem to pass out or take a turn for the worst.

It’s getting easier. We practice a lot and it’s getting better each day. Don’t worry, I’ll figure it out.
::smiles::

Jaxon - Do you remember a whole lot of what was being done to you?
I…I uh, I don’t really want to talk about it. Sorry. ::looks away::

I'm sorry . . .  I didn't mean to bring back bad memories for you! Well let's move on to the next
question

Jaxon - You assumed all girls falls for you but Avery (not at first) doesn't, how did that make you
feel?
Well, at first I wondered if she was a little special in the head, to be honest. ::laughs at Avery’s stink
eye:: Then I wondered if she didn’t like my cologne or something. But, as you see, she came around.
They all come around. ::winks::

Jaxon - Are you the one leaving little trinkets for Avery? If so that is so sweet of you! Also Why
Steel Lily for a nickname?
You’re just going to have to keep reading to find out! I can’t give away all my secrets in one interview!

Were both of your kisses a first kiss? Yes I am asking kiss and tell so do tell!
Jaxon: ::winks:: Well, what do you think?
Avery: ::shakes head:: It was my first good kiss, does that count?

Thanks so much! Avery and Jaxon for stopping by, oh and Jaxon . . . you got a couple cat hairs
on you but I won't say where . . . Avery wanna help him out?

Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea (Between, #1)You stop fearing the devil when you’re holding his hand…

Nothing much exciting rolls through Violet White’s sleepy, seaside town…until River West comes along. River rents the guesthouse behind Violet’s crumbling estate, and as eerie, grim things start to happen, Violet begins to wonder about the boy living in her backyard. Is River just a crooked-smiling liar with pretty eyes and a mysterious past? Or could he be something more? Violet’s grandmother always warned her about the Devil, but she never said he could be a dark-haired boy who takes naps in the sun, who likes coffee, who kisses you in a cemetery...who makes you want to kiss back. Violet’s already so knee-deep in love, she can’t see straight. And that’s just how River likes it.

Blending faded decadence and the thrilling dread of gothic horror, April Genevieve Tucholke weaves a dreamy, twisting contemporary romance, as gorgeously told as it is terrifying—a debut to watch

I have been waiting for this Volume to come out, not only because of it beautiful rays of yellow which is different from all the other color for the Soul Screamers. This volume contains "Never To Sleep" a novella of Sophie's point of view between If I DIE and Before I Wake. As a fan of the series it still dawns to me on this day why I haven't read Never To Sleep when I've read all of the other novella, so my paws will be clawing for this book as soon it hits my bookstore.
