Graphic Novels

A Game of Thrones: The Graphic Novel: Volume Two by George R. R. Martin, Daniel Abraham (Adapted by), Tommy Patterson (Illustrator)

A Game of Thrones: The Graphic Novel: Volume TwoNovelist Daniel Abraham and illustrator Tommy Patterson are not merely turning George R. R. Martin’s epic fantasy A Game of Thrones into a graphic novel: They are meticulously translating one art form into another, and capturing the intricate nuances of Martin’s novels just as HBO is doing with the blockbuster series. The Abraham/Patterson collaboration is more than just a faithful adaptation. It is a labor of love—and a thrilling masterwork in its own right.
Now, in the second volume, the sweeping action moves from the icy north, where the bastard Jon Snow seeks to carve out a place for himself among bitter outcasts and hardened criminals sworn to service upon the Wall . . . to the decadent south and the capital city of King’s Landing, where Jon’s father, Lord Eddard Stark, serves as the Hand of King Robert Baratheon amid a nest of courtly vipers . . . to the barbarian lands across the Narrow Sea, where the young princess Daenerys Targaryen has found the unexpected in her forced marriage to the Dothraki warlord Khal Drogo: love—and with it, for the first time in her life, power.
Meanwhile, the dwarf Tyrion Lannister, accused by Lady Catelyn Stark of the attempted murder of her now-crippled youngest son, must call upon all his cunning and wit to survive when he is captured and imprisoned in the lofty dungeons of the Eyrie, where Lady Stark’s sister—a woman obsessed with vengeance against all Lannisters—rules. But Catelyn’s impulsive arrest of the Imp will set in motion a series of violent events whose outcome is fated to shake the world at the worst possible moment. For now is not the time for private feuds and bloodthirsty ambitions.
Winter is coming . . . and with it, terrors beyond imagining.

Top 10 Fun Facts About SOUL TAKEN
1.  The inciting incident came about while I was walking into my local CVS about four years ago. And it took those long four years to get it where it is today.
2. Two of the characters are named after dogs that I've had. One is still alive and she is thrilled to be a part of my story.
3. I based the high school after the one I spent four years of my life in. But it had been rebuilt several years ago, now it only lives on in my memory and in the book.
4. Maggie and I share an affinity for cemeteries.
5. It wasn't pitched as a series, but now I get to linger in this world for two more books.
6. I have a crush on two of my male characters, for very different reasons. (And I hope you will too!)
7. Two of the characters (who will have a much bigger role in Books 2 & 3) were never in the original drafts, they came out of left field and I'm so glad they decided to stay.
8. Gate Seven came from much thought about how I would want my after life paradise to look like.
9. One of my family members plays a small role in the novel. I was a bit nervous to select that scene since it nearly made me cry while writing it, but my editor loved it so much it had to stay.
10. It has an amazing cover!
Excerpt
I knelt down again next to Ally and reached out to touch her skin. Even though the sensation was unpleasant, I could feel her pulse as it rapidly declined.

“No,” I moaned. I looked up again to see if any of the Guard could help, but no one was around.

I looked back down at Ally. Her face was paling by the second. My soul started to tingle. I leaned closer to her body, reaching my hand out to touch her face again, when her arm moved toward mine.

I jumped back.

Heather pushed through the crowd. “Did she just move? Did I see her move?” Streaks of black mascara ran down her cheeks.

A ringing sensation tickled my ear and I tuned in to the True Soul’s presence. I looked at each human. The True Soul was close, but who had it? They all seemed equally shocked at the tragedy.

An uncomfortable pressure in my chest drew me closer to her body. My soul slanted toward hers until I was practically on top of her. I helplessly watched my hand morph and stretch toward her body.

“What the—?” I tried to pull back but the strength of whatever was happening had other ideas.

My hand disappeared first, then my arm, then my torso.

But before I could call for help, my world went dark.

Werewolves Be Damned (Magic & Mayhem, #1)Book Description
Nexi Jones—part witch, part guardian, and wannabe kick-ass warrior—can’t throw a punch or conjure the simplest magic. But that doesn’t stop her from hunting the werewolves who slaughtered her human family. She’ll have her revenge, but only if Kyden, the elite guardian, would get the hell out of her way.

Kyden can’t decide if Nexi wants to get herself killed or if she just has no clue what she’s doing. But her father made it clear: keep Nexi safe…or else. Of course, the more Nexi runs toward revenge, the more she needs Kyden’s aid, and as she grows into her power and confidence, so does his desire to protect her. The only problem? She’d rather he dropped dead.

But when a vampire paints a bull’s-eye on Nexi’s back, she’s hard-pressed to deny Kyden and the help he’s offering. Even if it means getting her revenge will be a little bit harder. At least it will still be as sweet.

This has been on my Ipad for a month or so and I still haven't read it yet and I've heard so much about it so it is still under my Currently reading on GR although I haven't really flipped the pages yet.

Now here's the other thing, my goal is to have read all of these books before my trip at the end of June, but based on my schedule I'm hoping to get at least two out of four done. Two are for blog tours so I have to read them no matter what and review them. The others are as I go along with the two I have to focus on so wish me luck. Oh did I mention I am going to be crazy busy these next two weeks?

Since I won't be posting as much as I would like too because of my traveling preparation and other life stuff, the only things so far I have plan on posting are the blog tour posts. If I can I might be able to add something else but for right now just expect those post from me.

Dare You To Review

Dare You To (Pushing the Limits #2) By Katie McGarry

Dare You To (Pushing the Limits, #2)Book Description

That's how Beth finds herself living with an aunt who doesn't want her and going to a school that doesn't understand her. At all. Except for the one guy who shouldn't get her, but does....

Ryan Stone is the town golden boy, a popular baseball star jock-with secrets he can't tell anyone. Not even the friends he shares everything with, including the constant dares to do crazy things. The craziest? Asking out the Skater girl who couldn't be less interested in him.

Book Trailer of Dare You To

Where to Purchase

Katie gives a thrilling new kind of love, where opposite truly does attract. After writing about Noah and Echo's love story, it was time for Beth and a new guy Ryan to find love and trust. At first I wish there was more of Noah and Echo but I'm sure she'll bring them back eventually, what goes around comes around. So without futherado I will let you read the review and my rambling thoughts of the book.

Review
It all started with a DARE, Ryan Stone a jock need to get a girl's number but when he meet Beth "Skater Girl" you can imagine she her words were anything less than the "F" word. When Beth's world goes upside down she is forced to live with her uncle and in her old town. Ryan's world seems perfect except for one little thing that might destroy his father's reputation. Beth and Ryan are each other's opposite but soon neither of them can avoid the fact that there is chemistry between them. But can Beth let go of her life that she finds nothing but heartaches and pain? Or will she embrace a new start, a start that could be with the deep-soul hunky jock Ryan?  This next book brings a new kind of story one where opposite do attracts.

I give this all out Cat's Tails Up there is nothing about this book I didn't like, I love everything about it! Brilliantly written by Katie, I can't wait for more love stories with conflicts.

Ramble
What can  I say? If I thought Noah and Echo's love story was intense, Ryan and Beth take the heat! I'm glad Katie gave Beth a new perspective on life even when Beth didn't want it or didn't think that she could wants what she desires. Ryan on the other hand is a new kind of guy, one whom we haven't met until now . . . he's the golden boy of his family but if you search deeply in his family circle, relationships are strained.

Beth struggle with trying to start a new life in Groveton, she doesn't fit in and she worries about what people might know of her past. She also run into her old best friend Lacy, who does have an insight of Beth's life but never will she say anything. Beth needs to let go of her mom, her actions doesn't do Beth any good expect cause pain and suffering.

Ryan is fortunate that his parents gave him all his needs for a successful baseball career, but when Ryan finalizes in a writing competition that is simply unacceptable. Ryan had everything set in motion until he meet Beth for the second time and he's even more intrigue by her when her uncle asked to keep an eye on his niece. Now Ryan can fulfilled a new dare, ask for her number was one dare now it was to take her out on a date. Yeah that will be easy . . . NOT

So the more Beth lives in Groveton and starting spending more and more time with Ryan, she begins to feel like she never felt before . . . the butterflies in her stomach and her fond memories of ribbons. Ryan does everything to show Beth just how great a life in Grovton can be and help her accept living her new life in Groveton and with Ryan.

Memorable Quotes/Moments
"You're a lot like that bird in the barn. You're so scared you're going to be caged in forever you can't see the way out. You smack yourself against the wall again and again and again. The door is open, Beth. Stop running in circles and walk out." ~ Ryan

One of Ryan and Beth's moment was in the pond, where Beth had to learn how to trust I thought this was such a touching moment. Ryan said that he'll never let her go, he also says he loves her in the rain.

The scene where Ryan give Beth a ribbon, that was the first step in Ryan's part, he was saying "I care about you and I like you" even though he mention that he has like her already. But bringing something of the past that made Beth happy was enough to melt my heart.

"My heart stutters at the sound of Ryan's voice. Damn, why do I have to find everything about this boy attractive? His voice, his face, his biceps, his abs...stop it!" ~ Beth

Ash and Natalie are just starting to build a life together when things in the United Sentry States go from bad to worse. Ash and Natalie find themselves at the center of turmoil when dictator Purian Rose threatens Natalie’s life unless Ash votes in favor of Rose’s Law—a law that will send Darklings and other dissenters to a deadly concentration camp known as the Tenth.

When Ash can’t bring himself to trade Natalie’s life for those of millions of Darklings, her fate is sealed. Enter Elijah Theroux, the handsome Bastet boy Natalie once saved from her mother’s labs, where he’d been experimented on and tortured. It was his venom the Sentry used to create the lethal Golden Haze, the heart of the government conspiracy that led to Black City’s uprising and Ash’s rebirth as the Phoenix, the face of the rebellion. Elijah is back and Ash doesn’t like him; it’s clear he’s taken with Natalie, and Ash fears she may have feelings for him as well.

But Elijah also may have the answer to taking down Purian Rose for good—a powerful weapon called the Ora. Ash, Natalie and Elijah just have to escape Black City undetected to find it. But fleeing the city and finding this weapon (if it even exists) are easier said than done, and the quest could tear Ash and Natalie apart, even pushing them into the arms of others.

This enthralling sequel to Black City is just as absorbing, delicious and steamy as the first book, leaving readers hungry for the series conclusion.

Armchair BEA Day 6: Wrap ups

The time for BEA 2013 has come to an end, and I must say this was a great experience for me as a blogger.

I must say I'm sad that this is over, but I'm more excited for next year because I'll be one year older and wiser and it will be SassyCat's Books Review one year blogiversary.

So what did I learn from this experience?
I learned about a lot of things, but really it was the experience that I've gained perspective. I may not be able to do many travels as a blogger attending major events but I can do stuff online.

My favorite discuss topic?
Introduction was a huge thing for me, I could finally talk about my blog!

The Genre fiction was by far my favorite to discuss because I could share the love I have for YA fictions and what books I absolutely loves.

The blogger development was especially hard for me because I'm just in my fourth month of blogging on SassyCat's Review, but I gave my transitions from wordpress to blogger and why I did it.

New Ideas for the future?
I didn't think of any until it was brought up in the late last night twitter chat, there were definitely suggestions and I believe we'll come up with more as the year goes on until the next BEA.

I don't want to say this and that idea until I have thought it all out and kind of give a slight proposal of these ideas that could be used for next year.

One topic was Books to Movie adaptions. What were our favorites and what ones weren't the greatest.

Some of mine favorites were the Harry Potter films although I haven't read Book 7 and I was not pleased on how they did Book 5. I'm very excited to see how TMI: City of Bones will meet up to the fans expectation, I think they picked the perfect cast now it the matter of bringing that world to life.

I want to thanks Armchair BEA gals for hosting this event and giving them credits for their hard work.

Armchair BEA: Genre Missed

Just a thought I wanted to put out about missed genre, New Adult has become a new addition to the genre world although a lot of people get that mixed up with adult. Yes they are similar in title but they are not the same.

Adult vs. New Adult
Right now people are confused with the two genre and consider both of them the same thing but they're not, New Adult has a specific age group and it also focused on exploration of adulthood.

Anything can happen during the beginning of your adult life, you have first-time relationships, first-time experiences and you know a lot of first-times.

Adult is any age, most time authors have created a good background of their characters past. Then they focus on their present time for their characters than gradually build up the future to come.

So you see they are not the same, authors that have written adult before often time clarify that it is not New Adult, yes there is adult content but its not new.

Here's are some New Adult books (Also on my TBR Pile)
If You Stay (Beautifully Broken, #1)Picture Perfect

Here are some adult books without it being consider erotica
Kitty Raises Hell (Kitty Norville, #6)   Blood Bound (Unbound, #1)   Frost Burned (Mercy Thompson, #7)
