Catty Chat: Books I left behind

It's been awhile since I did an Catty Chat Meme, mostly because there hadn't been anything to really be catty about. But Now I have a wonderful topic but also a wonderful disappointment because it's about books that I left behind.

Books I left behind means books that I had planned to read but never got around to and it's just sitting in my kindle. 

But mostly on my kindle is where I left behind . . .

Iron Pendulum by Megan Curd

 

I had anticipated this book for so long, however when it came time to get the book . . . I just got really side-tracked with Life and never bothered to read it. So now it's nearly on the bottom of my Kindle books list because I haven't opened it in a long time. I will have to reread Steel Lily and then read Iron Pendulum, the cover is beautiful isn't it? And I think it fits perfectly for this year UtopYA which is time travel.

Lucidity by Stephanie Thomas

 

Now I did really DID read this book, but I never got around to do an review so I have to reread it. 

Sun Damage by Nikki Rae

 I KNOW I read this book, but why hadn't I review it?

Take Me On by Katie McGarry

 

I love Katie's books, and I know I read this book and the review is just sitting in my drafts but I read this book so long ago that I can't remember certain details about the characters or what made me fall in love with them. 

Opposition by Jennifer L Armentrout

 

Okay same excuses, i read it, did a partial review but now I need to reread it again and with this being the final book I'm sure I'll have the same reaction like I did when I read it the first time.

I've left behind a few Netgallery requests because I just requests too much and I can't read fast enough. I do prefer physical books over ebooks so that's part of it.

Now I do plan to read Heather Hildenbrand's Clone Chronicles books and Denise Grover Swank Curse Defiers and This is Your Destiny but I just haven't gotten around to it and they aren't far far away from when I requested the titles.

So what's my dilemma as far as reading these titles? Well one its that same scenarios where every readers hit, there''s a title out there that you HAVE TO READ!!! Then those other books get shifted down the ladder of what's the next book to read?

I'm thinking about and have tread this idea of where I won't accept any more requests from authors because There's about 15 draft reviews of books that I've read and wrote partial reviews but its not completed.  Plus once school starts back up, who knows when I'll have time if I have time. I know I'll read because that's a stress reliever but to Review? UGH I don't know. 

I've also consider taking a hiatus, I'm not active as much on my blog so people will probably think I'm already on a hiatus but I guess you could say that. I'm opened to sharing any promotions for authors because they now contact me through my facebook page. 

As a reader/Blogger/Reviewer, the whole reviewing and blogging aspect have gotten much more tasking for me to do and it shouldn't be that way but it is. I'll review and blog when I can, it' something that can't be forced on me anymore and I need to take time to really enjoy just reading the books than reading it to review it. 

Catty Chat: How much $$$$$

Okay so we probably spends hundreds of dollars on books right? Either within a year or within 6 months. But have you ever wonder how much it would truly cost to get every single book you want and how much stoarage you would need?

Kara from Great Imaginations started this so I'm blaming her on the spot then Pixie also from Great Imagination formerly The Bookaholi also pitch in.

So okay now to you the followers, the readers, the bloggers . . .

HOW MUCH $$$$$ 

Would it cost you to buy every single books you want in the world? 

How Much Space would you need? 

How would you get that to happen? 

Here's my answer . . . 

If you tally up all the hardcovers whihc would roughly be 17.99- 26.95(Yes you have to consider the foreign books costs) I would mulptily that by ooh 200,000 books now by my calculation its 5,390,000 Million Now that is just imaginary. 

Now paperbacks which will range between 7.99-18.99 depending on how's it formatted and who makes the print set. I would estimates that I would need at least 800,000 books. 

Calculation equals 15,193,000 million again imaginary. 

A total of 20, 583, 000 million . . .

Now I'm not sure if this is accurate or not, $106.29 Million is the average jackpot amount

Now I have 1 Million books . . . NOW WHERE DO I PUT ONE MILLION BOOKS?

If I had a house where the hallways were all bookshelves that might works, but you have to imagine every square inch of the hallways in the house would be filled with books.

Obviously this has a lot of space and I would CATIFICATION it's up and let Cats roam freely in that store, it would be their home and they'll watch over my books. I don't even know how much it would cost to buy a building that large but I might save myself on buy property and building it.

1. Book friend: do a 100 word intro about yourself.

• My love for books didn't occurred until after I read Twilight, YES I know but now I'm beyond Twilight.  
• I am a college student and by the end of this year I am switching programs and hopefully this next program will be what I want to pursue. 
• I can almost name a lot of characters by actor's name in a movie and then trying to rely the actors name I get the weird look because they have no idea who I'm talking about. 
• I like to make annual Christmas Cards and is trying to catch up for the limited time I could only get this year, I'm also dabbling in jewelry making.
• I am a writer, yes I have at least four different WIP in mind and is planning to get one of those WIP published in the next year or two. (It's a really great book, in my mind) 
• I love to bowl, I've been bowling for as long as I can remember my average is 160. 
• I have one cat, Buddy and I'm an only child . . . I've been told that I resemble Kate Hudson which is a great compliment.

2. What is the best bookish thing to happen to you this year?

This year? As in 2014? God it seem like this year has gone by so fast! Well I say my most awesome bookish thing was attending UtopYA in Nashivlle. I met so many people that I've connected over facebook and really couldn't believe that it taken years to finally meet them! I think my blog name took off really well although I had hardly anything to brand it and I'm going to be working on that for the future bookish events I might attend to. 

3. If you were to write your own novel, and you had all the time and money to do it, what would you write about? Fiction or non-fiction? YA or adult? Genre?

Well I do write now, I pretty much write urban fantasy adult, paranormal/suspense adult, a few YA if I could write a teenager's mind and I would love to try getting into New Adult but having the darnest time figuring out a story and what would happen in this particular age group the characters are in.  

4. Your favorite place to read is:

My bed . . . Simple 

5. Did you discover any awesome writers this year? Did you have any big book shocks for 2014?

Yes! And really too many to count. Well I can't really say since I've been not reading a whole lot but I think when I do the Christmas end of the year blogging challenge that Rachel of fiktshun does every year gives us time to reflect on the books we read. 

6. What bookish goal would you like to accomplish for 2015?

Ha! I had a goal this year, read only series books, snorts failed badly on that. I kept my goal at 50 and I will not be reaching that this year which is not a big deal because I'd simply didn't have time to read. I'm not sure what goals I want to set for myself in bookish related things 

7. Do you live a double life? Would people be shocked to know you run a book blog? Do you keep your identity a secret?

Um no, I'm pretty straight forward but if I could, I would wear something or carry something that screams SassyCat's Books Review (I might be taking out books in the future in my title). 

8. Your book soulmate is:

Mmm book soulmate, can I get back to you on that? 

9. What book would make the next big blockbuster (please help out here, The Hunger Games is over next year).

Aside from The 5th (or is it 4th) wave being made into a movie but I haven't read it nor own it. If you're asking for what book I want to be the next big blockbuster? I would say the Lux series by Jennifer L Armentrout. The series is done and almost anyone can pick it up right away (no waiting for next book!)  

10. A picture of your favorite bookshelf.

This is what I started with when stacking books as well crates, now I have two other bookshelves that had helped me sort some books as won books or series books or my favorite authors/books section.

Catty Chat Discussions: Delirium Pilot

Okay so remember how Delirium was unaired for Fox network? Then Hulu picked it up but here's a few problems that Hulu and Fox came across.

One only members of hulu could view it, the non member could watch the first episode. (Now I'm writing this as I'm watching the episode) 

I don't know if hulu ever got rights for the other episodes

Two the problem Fox ran into was that delirium was made for young adult and for those that actually read the books. Fox focused a lot on the middle age audiences. 

Third the CW network or ABC Family should have picked it up because of the target audience that they have. 

The Pilot Episode

Episode one was so fast pace that it actually ruin the whole theme of the episode, I would have much rather save the first kiss between Alex and Lena for later in the season rather when they barely knew each other and only had two run in before that kiss in the episode. 

I like the whole part where Alex is part of the resistance and that he has to get close to Lena because of her father but again they or Fox network fast pace them together so it was really almost intentional force between Alex and Lena.

The end of this episode should have been SAVED for the last episode of Season one!!!! GRRR

The cast that was pick was fine for their setting,

Billy Campbell plays the best bad guy role! I've seen him in other shows where he plays the controlling male and he does well in that category.









HOW CAN YOU IGNORE THIS HOTNESS?????
Daren Kagasoff as Alex: It's about time I saw this guy back on screen, after the Secret Life Series ending I had always wonder what would be his next projects, Delirium was one of them.

Emma Roberts as Lena
She wasn't bad and I admire for how far she is willing to act like something was really happening, rather than that "Just Acting" scenario. I have no problem with how she play Lena.

So the cast picking was just fine

Now because I don't know how the first book goes, I'm assuming that there were a lot of small details that could have been played into episodes.

So I don't think it was the book or the story itself that didn't gain audience, because it clearly had one when the books came out. It was the matter of what Network decided to pick it up and it failed on both part.

If I was a screenwriter writing/producer or whatever title you have to make a film or an episode, should have really thought it out on how each episode was going to grow as well the characters. The pilot was done ALL wrong in my opinion. As well the network's target audience.

So I would hope that if the fan based is large enough that maybe a movie could be a way to revamp the actually pilot and keep all the same casts. Or another network that its target audiences are young adults will pick it up and revamp it all over again because this show needs a do-over needless to say.

How long is your TBR pile?

There are some many reasons to why our TBR pile never gets smaller, but we also don't eliminates books that causes our TBR to grow quickly.

For me I have so many different reasons why my TBR Pile never gets smaller, why it grows and grows, and what books that I'll probably never read, and What books I'm just adding on to my TBR pile.

Netgallery TBR Pile . . .

You think Netgallery was love at first sight right? So did I but then I found a little problem

• You request too many then lack on reading it or reviewing it or giving feedback that it might actually hurt you in the selection process from publishers. 
• You request a book and you haven't read the previous book (I've had this problem before)
• You're pre-approved but then you don't read books published by that company 

Books that I'll probably never read . . .

• The I am Number Four series, I saw the movie and was interested in reading the books but I'll probably never read them because of all the other books that I want to read
• The Vampire Diaries because there's just too many to keep track of
• Books that I have by Elizabeth Chandler
• Beautiful creatures series
• Plus more that I probably can't list at the moment

So is there a way to resolve this growing problem? 

I've heard some ideas that some of my blogger buddies are doing, 

• Making a jar, writing down all TBR books and then draw at random . . . 
• Some might not even keep track of the books that are on the TBR pile and the TBR pile is non-existence to them. 
• Eliminates the years and years of dusts books, if you haven't read them by now then you'll probably never read them. It kind of like clothes in a sense where you wore something five years ago and never wore it in the last four years.

MEEOOWW! I've finally come up with a great title for discussions posts! I present to you the

 Catty Chat!

So let's talk spin offs on books, 

 

Do you like them?

Do you dislike them? If so why?

Does the author stay true to the world? 

How do you feel about Ghostwriters?

 

There's all sort of questions to consider when reading a series spin off, in my opinion some spin off are great for TV but I don't know about books. I don't actually think I've had read any spin off books . . . 

 

So let's look at the following books that are in spin offs,

 

Vampire Academy/Bloodlines

Bloodlines series by Richelle Mead, she had taken characters from vampire Academy and given them their own story. Now I haven't pick up either of the series but if you are one of those that read the entire Vampire Academy and follow through with the next series.

Vampire Diaries

I'm sure everyone is pretty familiar with The Vampire Diaries (TV show) but I want to talk about the books, I've only read the first two and then I got onto other books but while I followed the show I ingore the books and come to find out that there were three other spin off!

The Vampire Diaries features The Awakening: Volume I (1991), The Struggle: Volume II (1991), The Fury: Volume III (1991), Dark Reunion: Volume IV (1992).

The Return trilogy featurs The Return: Nightfall (2009), The Return: Shadow Souls (2010), The Return: Midnight (2011) .

The Hunters trilogy features The Hunters: Phantom (2011) (Written by a ghostwriter), The Hunters: Moonsong (2012) (Written by a ghostwriter), The Hunters: Destiny Rising (2012) (Written by a ghostwriter)
 

The Salvation trilogy features The Salvation: Unseen (2013) (Written by Aubrey Clark), The Salvation: Unspoken (2013) (Written by Aubrey Clark), The Salvation: Unmasked (2014) (Written by Aubrey Clark).

 

WOW I'm amazed that readers are still in tuned with the books! Like I don't know if I could read three other spin off books, now have you read any of the other spin off books in The Vampire Diaries world?

Mortal Instrument

Now the Mortal Instruments, I've read all but the last book that just came out in May . . .  I really want to read it but I just hadn't had the time! Cassandra Clare wrote the Infernal Devices as well set in 1878. This is a struggling time for the shadowhunters. 

She also written The Bane Chronicles all on Bane the most powerful warlock POV, I haven't gotten any of those books but I've always enjoyed reading TMI between Bane and Alec. 

 

Cassandra announce that she was writing a spin off of the Mortal Instrument called The Dark Artifices sets about 5 years later after whatever happens in City of Heavenly Fire. She is bringing new characters and new dangers. I can't wait for it to come out, there a couple other talks she had about even more spin off and here's a message that she share about spins off.

 

Nightshade

Andrea Creamer have drawn us in her young adult/fantasy world of Nightshade, she spends a great deal about historical influences in her fantasy world. So you know that she would write spin-off that take you back to the past about where everything started that lead up to Calla's story. She also wrote Snakeroot that takes place after Bloodrose which I have not read yet but do have it on my shelf. 

 

Iron Fey

Julie Kagawa have brought the world of Fairies, yes you read that right fairies . . . I have not read the books but I have just about every one of them thank to my friend gifting them to me for Christmas/birthday. Now all I have to do is find a time to read that series as well the spin off. So who like the spin-off? Is the world still true to the first series The Iron Fey?

Others . . . .

So I've heard that Amanda Hocking was going to do a spin off series off the Tyrlle world, but I had no idea when so I completely forgot all about it until EW feature the cover of her new book Frostfire. Granted it gained my attention, however I'm not sure why I feel the way that I do . . . But I have mix feelings about the spin off. It's been nearly 3 years since Ascend(Trylle #3) been published. 
Am I concern that the world won't be as great as it was when I first read Switched? Or will this spin off be working too hard to match the readers expectations? I don't know I'm just "shrug shoulders" type, how will the spin off go?

But I'm willing to read it and try and keep an open mind, hopefully I can get that same reaction like I did before when I first read the trylle series.

I'm not even going to start about the Harry Potter spin off, I mean these books been coming out since I've been in middle school for crying out loud! We just ended the movie in 2011! So just don't go there . . .
